One of the issues I see in regards covid-19 compliance and wanting all sorts of restrictions lifted is a passive attitude which is that getting the virus only occurs to others
mattwnz:
I think the government needs some form of anonymity with the test, so there is no risk for these overstayers when they get a test.
We don't want anonymity with testing... we need to know exactly which person tested positive. I understand the issue with overstayers and others who are wanting to evade the authorities for whatever reason. I guess the answer is that their details not be shared between the DHB and other government entities.
DS248:Good news
"The Western Australian Government is claiming a "comprehensive victory" in a key legal battle with mining billionaire Clive Palmer, after the Federal Court ruled the state's border closure was more effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19 than any other measure."

Two further cases of confirmed reinfection
Likely just the tip of the iceberg though. I have seen cases in HK & Taiwanese etc data where people who earlier had & recovered from covid-19 (negative test) have later been picked up as positive again (mostly at the border). But I do not know if genomic tests were done in those cases. Not mentioned in the case reports, which of course are generally published on the day or day after the infection was detected so more detailed investigation results not available at that time.

What some experts in the media have said is nothing to see here, its normal.
Batman:
Usain Bolt has it.
Which is sad because if it has long term effects on lungs and heart as seen in other people, he won't be the fastest man on Earth anymore.

Well especially if those with a second (but distinct) infection don't show any or only very mild symptoms. It could be far worse - like dengue - where a second infection can be far worse than the first.
Maybe it'll be more like influenza, where maybe there's partial cross-immunity from having had closely related diseases in the past. Infecting populations with colds and flu during the colonial era wreaked havoc on people who'd had no previous exposure to those "seasonal" mild diseases - as did people in Europe

Which basically means we'll have to just live with it .
"The first is that it suggests that previous infection is not protective," he said. "The second is that it raises the possibility that vaccinations may not provide the hope that we have been waiting for."
https://www1.racgp.org.au/newsgp/clinical/more-evidence-suggests-no-long-term-covid-19-immun
"Blood tests taken from more than 90 patients and healthcare workers during the study period revealed that while 60% of people were able to mount a ‘potent’ antibody response to the virus, only 17% retained the same potency three months later."
And then a quick google can find claims that totally contradict this . So who knows .
Just had a chat to an old acquaintance - his fit and strong brother got covid in March and is still suffering lung and heart problems.
In case you were wondering why we don't just let ourselves all get infected so we can get back to normal - it might not work out so well for you or someone you love.

Not necessarily. If I understand correctly, COVID has some similarity to the flu.
Where we have a yearly flu vaccine, we may need add to it a COVID component, for some protection against both.
We may actually need a 3monthly vax booster shoot , in order to keep the immunity/protection as that doesnt seem to last (as was predicted by some experts)
But , no one really knows at this stage .
And may need new vax's as it slowly mutates .
The latest 5 case sub-cluster at "Mt Roskill Evangelical Fellowship" has me a bit nervous. The "Evangelical" label IMO correlates rather too closely with reliance on faith over science, "prosperity theology" etc.
