Changing our cities has happen. For example a big chunk of the Wellington CBD could be made off limits to cars from say 11pm Friday to 11pm Sunday especially from Lambton Quay along Willis Street to Manners Street then Manners St to Taranaki. This would open the CBD to bikes, scooters and pedestrians and bring the city to life.

Never been there before myself but from all the maps i see every day it would look like it would make a lot of sense.
Maybe a reduced speed limit like 20KPH CBD wide with a tarrif so peple could still use the roads to say pickup an appliance but at their disadvantage so it makes public transport logical.

Something like that happened for 9 hours on Sunday.  It was called Open Spaces - but was actually about closing streets to traffic.  Didn't impact me personally, as I don't have car in Welly and took the bus onto Courtenay Pl.

The problem is that the 'cuba quarter' which is roughly the area you are talking about has lots of apartments, some with car-parks and more apartments being built in that area now and in the near future.

So, ensure the public know the Police will enforce this by instant tickets. It needs to be a concern for eScooter riders that they are being watched, behave or pay. Instant fine, payable in 7 days, no recourse. A hard line.

There is almost no speed enforcement on state highways....I'd like to see more enforcement of speeds *everywhere*.

The hoons who *think* they can speed safely need to be reined in. They create congestion and make everyone else fell less safe.

The logical answer to all this is to put sped governors in all vehicles so they can't exceed the speed limit. Brake your way out of trouble if there is any.......I've never bought the idea that anyone speeds their way out of trouble.

Reducing the speed limit to cars to say 10-15km/hr in certain times can have the same effect, but also can be safer in terms of crime. Removing cars can have negative social effects, as often seem in these street malls created by turning them from roads into solely pedestrian areas. We used to have some of these areas in my local town, and they were hotspots for low lifes. It was fixed by putting back cars, but have a 15km/h limit.

Your bike has different handling characteristics. Centre of balance is predictable. Larger wheels capable of dealing with small objects and bumps in path without deviation.

Had the same problem. when through the app and lodge a claim. 10 mins later account credited.

Coil: So I used a scooter yesterday with some mates and did a devo lap.
Seems to have enough torque but we flattened them in 35 minutes from full

I smashed the hell out of my knee on the scooter steering pole thing when I got cut off by a mate and had to bunny hop the curb. At least I didn’t stack it too bad.

Those vouchers I had like $12 worth of. It only uses $1 of those each ride. So I had the app take an amount on top of what I had paid with the auto top up feature disabled. I feel this is not right at all.

My mates phone died mid ride. The scooter stopped working but left him logged in. Took us 30 minutes to walk back to my house to charge his phone to then logout. He was charged for every minute of that and was never auto logged out. I find this also very poor design. He also had auto topup turned off and it took extra money without auth..

Won’t ride these again. Removed the app and all my payment info. This is due to it taking money unauthorised.

Id like to deduct the riders who broke the T+C's (under 18's particularly, and no helmets), then compare the injuries to km traveled, to seperate the toy users from the normal users.

Why pick on the under 18s. Many of them are probably better riders than the over 18s.

I bet my 14 year old cousin who is 6ft tall and has been professionally riding scooters for years and can do backflips and what ever else on them can ride it better than anyone else here.

If I were physically able to ride them (one day fingers crossed) I bet I could do backflips, 360s and somersaults but none of them would be intentional.
