I don't think they are suicide doors, and at least the style is not quite as crazy as a BMW i3 or leaf. But they say in the video something about wanting to make a statement for their first EV. Most of the car manufacturers seem to be doing this and I think they are getting some terrible advice somewhere pushing for this!

The E will have the same wheelbase as a existing Jazz, but be 50mm wider and 100mm shorter overall.

It's about time to start using Manapōuri to charge our cars rather than subsidising Rio Tinto to make aluminium.

At 850 MW installed capacity, it is the largest hydroelectric power station in New Zealand, and the second largest power station in New Zealand.

And to continue employing hundreds of New Zealanders.

Also, once someone has paid to put Manapouri on the national grid, which in turn will increase your supply costs, the price of electricity won't go down

Not sure how this will actually work thou because you will still need somewhere to actually take your car if it needs work.... or will these all now be based in cheap industrial zones....

I don't know of the usage stats of gas. How the mined gas is used for 9kg bottles, 45kg bottles for consumer HW and cooking, electricity generation, and whatever else it's used for in NZ. I can see a day where gas exploration ban on new is put back. Ideally as a coal ban is brought forward. Do we generate electricity from coal and gas? What is involved to make that gas only?

Huntly was designed and built from day 1 to be able to operate on both coal and gas. (original 4 generators) And it can even switch between gas and coal while operating. So switching it to gas only is as simple as someone in the control room disabling coal operation. (newer 2 generators are gas only)

The steel mill uses waste heat from the steel making process to generate electricity. Although when wholesale prices are high, they feed in extra coal so more electricity will be generated. So sort of a Peaker generator (its output is included in the cogeneration figures on the transpower and EM6 Live) Again a simple operational change to limit coal input to only what is needed for steel production.

AFAIK there are no “coal only” generators in NZ. There are some other small cogeneration plants with coal as the energy source though. All other coal is used for industrial heat, residential, and for things like steam trains.

The gas comes out of the ground as a mixture of methane (Natural gas), propane and butane (both called LPG in NZ) and some distillates (crude oil). It is a simple process to separate them.

The gas that is manufactured from coal is called ”town gas”. It is inferior to Natural gas, as it has a low energy density. (cant be used with appliances that are designed for Natural gas). It is highly poisonous (it is approx 50% carbon monoxide, which is why people would stick their head in a gas oven to commit suicide). And it is made by heating coal in a sealed chamber. In sort, town gas is so bad that even directly burning coal is better.

The town gas networks were all either converted to natural gas or permanently shutdown in the 70s and 80s. And Natural gas (although not good for your health to breathe it long term) It is otherwise not poisonous. Risk of death is mainly from fire or lack of oxygen. So it is now much much harder to commit suicide with a gas oven. And the old town gas pipes in some places were reused as ducting for fibre optic cables.

"Earlier this week, Spanish automaker Seat offered a preview of its future micromobility vision with the announcement of the Twizy-like Minimó electric urban runabout at Mobile World Congress 2019. Now the company has pulled back the curtains on its first all-electric car – the el-Born – ahead of a full reveal at the Geneva Motor Show.

The el-Born demonstrates what Seat sees as the key technologies that are currently driving change in the automotive industry – electrification, autonomous driving, shared-mobility and connectivity. It's being presented as a concept EV and has been designed and developed in Barcelona, will be manufactured in Germany and is expected to go on sale in 2020.

It's the first Seat to be based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform used for VW's I.D. electric concepts and upcoming production models, including the Buzz and Crozz, as well as the recently-announced electric dune buggy that will also be shown off in Geneva."

Prices for Tesla Model S and X are slashed from 1st of March.

Plus existing customers are able to upgrade their Software to Autopilot and Full Self Driving for half price.

Here is a image of the Old Pricing for P100D - around $225k for performance top end edition. There are people selling their 2nd hand ones for about the same on Trademe now.

Below is the image of new pricing. The same P100D is about $165k now.

There is no more 75D models now to be sold and I can guess they will be popular in the 2nd hand market now due to their sharp pricing.

The new Model S is priced under $135k now for a base model with a range of 520km.

I think the 2nd hand market will have a few of these in next few years under $60k mark.

You mean they have put prices back to where they were in Jan when they killed off the 75Kwh models :)

Now, its not that this is a bad move, you are basically getting a 33% increase in battery for the same price,

But from a customer's POV the Cheapest new Tesla is still the same price ($130K) that it was 6 months ago....

Yes, however the biggest hit is for the P100D owners.

If you bought a P100D on or before Feb 28th it was $225k and the same Model X is now $165k.

Although any back orders now are adjusted with the difference.

You can see some people are still trying to sell them on Trademe at that old prices will get a surprise. Here and here.

In the US you not have "3" 35K.. "S" 79K and "X" at 88K so I'm guessing it will sit ~40-45K???

Although availability will be interesting... will they have this new model (LHD) in production before they start RHD model 3 output??

Yeah, but given past history the odds of Telsa offering an entry model "Y" @~38.5K would seem unlikely ....

(I could be mistaken, but we will have to wait at see)

Agreed.

Once the VW Group have a common platform across the 4 brands (Audi \ Volkswagen \ Skoda \ SEAT) that'll really get things moving.

What it will come down to is the difference between the brands will be trim & specification. Maybe range too.
