WyleECoyoteNZ:

As some disliked the post around the EV Porsche Taycan, here is the production ready Volkswagen ID.3

https://www.netcarshow.com/volkswagen/2020-id.3_1st_edition/

Looks nice, lots of battery options to choose from,

The biggest downer for us appears to a 2022 delivery date in this part of the world...

"Pricing for Australia is yet to be released, but it's expected to lob at around diesel Golf money, meaning it should be in the mid-high $40,000 range for Australia. The ID.3 is expected to arrive Down Under around 2022."

Yeah, that 2022 (almost 3 years away) date is ridiculous. We'll probably have some UK imports in the country by then. Outside of the Model 3, the ID3 was the other EV I was interested in.

Deliveries don't start in Germany until mid 2020 according to the information on my post, so a 2022 local release isn't too bad at all

No audio on this video, so here's the details. Promises to be less expensive conversion, because using some off-the-shelf components. BY the way EV West is well-known for their VW conversions.

2020 Volkswagen e-Beetle - The Return Of Beetle!

The technical basis for the conversion is provided by tested production parts from Volkswagen’s new e-up! These are manufactured at Volkswagen Group Components production sites.

As a result, the electric engine and the 1-speed gearbox are produced in Kassel, while the battery system components are supplied from Brunswick.

The components from Kassel and Brunswick work together in the e-Beetle as an electric drive that reaches performance peaks of 60°kW /82°PS.

The battery system is built into the underbody and consists of up to 14 modules, each with a capacity of 2.6 kWh. The lithium-ion battery modules cumulatively deliver energy of up to 36.8 kWh.

The higher performance and the increased weight due to the extent of electrification require the adaptation and reinforcement of the chassis and the brakes.

Despite the new total weight of 1,280 kg, the e-Beetle accelerates to 50 km/h in just under four seconds and to 80 km in just over eight seconds. The range of the e-Beetle, which reaches top speeds of up to 150 km/h, is 200 km – a comfortable distance for a relaxing day out in an electrified classic car.

In the event that the e-Beetle runs out of electricity during the trip, the built-in series-produced components allow for fast charging via a combined charging system.

As a result, the e-Beetle can store enough energy for a journey of over 150 km after charging for around an hour.

Ford study reveals 4 out of 10 Americans believe EVs are powered by gasoline

By Simon Alvarez

... 42% of Americans stated that they believe electric cars still need to be filled up with gasoline to run.

...More than 90% of individuals polled by Ford, for one, stated that they don’t believe quick acceleration and a great driving experience is a benefit of electric cars.

...Around 67% of Americans and 68% of Europeans also believe that EVs are not capable for towing and hauling tasks.

... almost 80% of Americans stated that they would not pick an EV because of extreme weather.

...Nearly 65% who are in the market for an AWD vehicle will not consider an electric car as well.

...it won’t be difficult to find a driver who believes that the vehicles are just slow, “glorified golf carts.”

...the findings of the study will hopefully guide the company in its strategy to roll out battery-electric vehicles like the F-150 EV in the near future.

I dont see how. They want to sell as many as possible. You and others want to buy as many as possible. the issue is production numbers. If production equalled global demand they would be everywhere. They aren't until production increases. You should know that.

The issue here is Americans! Like when they ask them basic geography. Whats the capital of South Africa?  Greenland.. :-) I was at a birthday for my ex Americans gf's niece. Her Uncle asked where I was from. New Zealand. When I was on R+R in Australia in the Vietnam war, NZ was a few miles off the coast. Her brother in law though it was near England.

On the first point, it is the fault of those getting the news out there when they lump hybrids (full) in with EVs. They are not EVs, they are efficient gas cars.

I don’t care about fast acceleration but I do care about a ‘good’ driving experience (not great). But that is a really subjective criterion.

The majority of EVs have no rated tow capacity. That is changing, but at the moment, the majority are correct.

Extreme weather is either really hot, really cold, or maybe even really wet. Battery performance degrades in these conditions, getting better no doubt, but there is a history.

Does AWD mean massive SUVs and Pickups? To an American it probably does.

Compliance cars, such as the Ford Focus EV, were indeed glorified golfcarts that did nothing to improve the reputation of EVs.

No surprise that Ford will cover all these bases with an electric F150, otherwise why bother commissioning the study?

I agree. But we have to wait till ICE and EV are largely equal on price. The EV does have running costs savings so it can cost more and be worth it. The vast majority of people will buy an EV as they like the look, the cost savings, the look, the cost savings. They will see the green side as a bonus. Not everyone can afford to throw away $ to save the planet. Thats why Govts dont add 10% tax on everything and everyone so that the country can fight for climate change. If GST was supplemented by a 10% Green GST and those funds were used exclusively to actively fight climare change, Im in

You're not "throwing away money" if that what it takes to preserve civilisation for your kids.

Think that one through.

I didn't say me, or you. I said Not everyone can afford to throw away $ to save the planet. If you are currently paying a premium that will not be recovered, thats throwing money away. If you costed out the small amount of CO2 saved in year by one car after spending thousand extra, there must be better gains to be made. That fine for early adopters but its very low and its very inefficient. Its a lot like buying solar PV and never recovering the outlay. Right now, it doesn't matter as the numbers of EVs is miniscule. Who would buy an EV for near double? Some do, as is the case for any early adoption, but the planet saving numbers are almost invisible. As we can see with new releases, the big day is looming, then we can talk about double digit market share, not a fraction of a fraction. I hear what you are saying but if the globe had to spend that much for all climate saving measures it could not ever happen

*Shrug* 5 out of 10 Americans thought electing Trump would be a good idea, too, so I don't really think you can hold America up as a shining beacon of rationality these days.
