kingdragonfly: A lot of good information why an electric bus is better for the environment and oil independence than electric cars.
NZ should push harder for electric buses.
Why The US Trails China In Electric Buses
CNBC
China is leading the world in electric vehicle adoption, with almost all city buses run on electric batteries. The U.S. has been slow to catch on, with only 300 electric buses delivered last year compared to China’s 78,000. That’s all starting to change, with some cities and companies leading the charge.
Wellington did have electric buses until about 18 months ago when the WRC decided electric old fashioned it would rather use diesels.

Yeah but they were literally dragging the power cord around with them which would often disconnect, usually in the rain, and usually in peak hour traffic. Always felt bad for the drivers of those things...

Wellington still does have electric buses.
They are a double decker, single rear axle.
They are also slightly shorter than the diesel version

How many did they buy 2 or 3??

Electric buses? An old stuff story I saw said around 10 were due. I think that there would be at least that number of electric. They run on the Island bay to Johnsonville route, I was actually on one this morning.
For the diesel ones, there are a few of those as well.

They got 10, as mentioned they have single read axles, so can be spotted from a distance, but they also have no A/C so on rainy days its like the 1980s with heaps of steamed up windows..... ( apparently its due to not enough Kwh in the battery)
Hopefully the next generation can have bigger batteries so they can run some demisters...
As an aside and keeping things on track the regional council are promising 50 odd new single level Electric buses to replace the old trolley fleet, but they appear to be at least 2 years away....
I feel Heavy vehicles will come thick and fast once viable market propositions are easily accessible. For these buses, if they're at least 2 years away, they'll ramp up fairly quickly beyond that.
I recall Elon saying he was looking at adding the facility to plug in power tools, I would imagine there would be some control of this so you don't draw too much from the main battery.
Guilliman: Is it just Rivian and Tesla developing EV utes currently? Perhaps they could do well here if they're done right. I recall Elon saying he was looking at adding the facility to plug in power tools, I would imagine there would be some control of this so you don't draw too much from the main battery.
Rivian looks to be the only one developing a traditional ute. Tesla's ute is said to be a bit "different" but we're about a month away from it being officially revealed. Bollinger (posted further up) is doing a retro style ute and Ford is making something based off of a Rivian's power train which I suppose will probably come out somewhat traditional as well.
Looking to buy a Tesla? Use my referral link and we both get credits

Thats the main thing holding all EV's back. It needs to be viable for you and me and a business to buy one. When it is we will buy them. When that point is reached, people will cease looking at the negative reasons buying an EV, and will be briefly looking at the decreasing number of reasons they have to buy an ICE.
I agree, when that happens it will happen fast
