Jase2985: its my opinion and im allowed to share it, im not calling any one specifically anything im sharing how i feel when i drive on the roads and im sure there are many people who agree with me.

@MikeB4, im not disagreeing with you, all im saying is its not always possible for what every reason, and some people like to drive at 95kph just like some choose to drive at 105kph, but if you choose to drive slower you should also be considerate of others who may choose to drive faster, be it 97kph, 100kph or faster. for some people driving is a chore a means to an end, for others they enjoy driving, im in the latter but i like to drive at the speed i want to drive which is sometimes faster than others on the roads but still sticking within the limits of law enforcement.

all im tying to say is those who choose to drive slower are not in a position to try and force others to drive their speed weather they do it intentionally (yes some people do this) or not.

I absolutely believe I can drive at 90 if I want what I don't have the right to do is slow down other drivers, I pull over when ever I can or match the speed of others if there is no pull over points. When pulling our boat I would probably pull over at least 10 times going over say the Rimukaka or Desert Roads for example.

I assist others to overtake and will slow when they are passing to shorten their time exposed to danger.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Some roads marked 100 kph are safe to drive at that speed or even higher. Others are like playing Russian Roulette. There are many, many roads, and parts of roads, where it is perfectly legal to do 100 kph but no sane person would ever dream of attempting it.

Geektastic:Who cares? What difference does 5kmh make to anything whatsoever? People walk at that speed, that is how little it is.

its the difference between you being one of those prick slow drivers and not, and its the difference between travelling the speed limit and then speeding

so yes 5kph makes a big difference

And that kind of attitude right there is why we have so many deaths on the roads.

A person doing 95% of the speed limit is not a 'prick'.....

It's because all too often those who drive at 95 magically speed up to 110 when they come across a passing lane or wider section of road.

not completely OT, just came back from a holiday in South Africa, there slow drivers almost always pull over when there is only a single lane, and the right hand lanes are largely kept for drivers going 120+, just like I've experienced across Europe. In NZ no one (except maybe Mike B4 and me :p ) gives a crap about anyone else behind them, after all those behind you are simply loosing right?

1. where did i mention a speed? i didnt you have made an assumption on the speed there

2. thats a huge call to say that that is why we have so many deaths on our roads, do you have stats to back that up? probably not

5kph is the difference between someone perceiving someone else as driving slow, and driving an acceptable speed, and its also the difference bwteen somone driving an acceptable speed and driving over the speed limit.

You never mentioned a speed until you mentioned a speed.

"I never mentioned a speed but IMO if you are driving at less than 90kph in a 100kph zone then yes you are a prick."

Those who say slow drivers cause accidents ignore the fact it is the people who drive on emotion that actully cause the accident. You know, the guy can't chill out and instead tailgates while fuming about the "prick" in front of him.

slow and fast drivers cause accidents.

if everyone who should be driving at 100kph was driving at 100kph im sure there would a lot less stress/impatience on the roads and possibly a lot less accidents.

both sides are at fault at the the end of the day, the speeders an those that choose to drive slower.

And, equally, someone doing 105% of the speed limit is not a 'prick'.

Is it time to ask why people are in such a hurry? Sure, some are late for an appointment or rushing to a funeral but most of the impatient drivers I see on the road give a strong impression that they just want to be ahead of everyone else.

Mayhap not so much about being in a hurry, as being irritated about impingement on freedom to drive to limit of conditions (using conditions in broadest sense, including speed limit and tolerance).
I get irritable being behind 45 km/h car when I want to drive 54 km/h in 50 km/h zone on a straight broad road, sunny morning, no road cones - hard to accept only makes 1.8 minutes difference on my usual 8 km journey to work (albeit might skip the odd red light going faster) - my current answer is to remind self to drive like there's a cop behind me. Emotions on road are a factor in accidents - one of the problems with human drivers...

Slow driving is not dangerous. At worst it is discourteous if a queue forms and you don't pull over. If you put peoples lives at risk because someone was discourteous towards you, "prick" doesn't begin to cover it.

Going over a rise or around a bend on a 100k road and coming on a vehicle doing around 60k is very dangerous and this
Happened twice over the holiday period.

The law requires you to be able to stop within the length of lane visible, or half that on an unmarked road. If you cannot stop because of an obstruction or slow vehicle around a bend or corner then you are travelling too fast for the conditions.

Correct, but the slow driver is travelling in a manner likely to endanger other road users and dangerous driving.
