Got one of these from J-Car today. The flange mount is integral to a removable spacer, so you can flush mount it with a 22mm hole. It has a built in 5v regulator, and an inline fuse, so a ready to go solution. The depth if flush mounting, is about 30mm. I am fairly sure I have room for a couple of them behind the interior light of my Pajero. Beats the heck out of butchering a cigaret lighter plug with USB socket, and probably costs the same ($14)

Just need a dash cam to plug into it now :-)

It has 2 cameras, one is mounted in the front window (and has the SD storage, with max 64 GB card), and the other is linked via a coax cable (transfers video and power) for the rear window.

Will you be getting the 4 year optional warranty? Ah Amazon won't ship it here :'-(

Stuff had an interesting article today. Apparently the Police are calling dashcam footage of doggy driving as 'gold'.

Looking back through this thread I rather like the Blackvue dual camera kit, although I'm not keen on having to lay the cable between front and rear cameras. I noticed that jarledb was thinking of sourcing a Blackvue from Amazon, but they do have an onshore website where they are asking a hefty $430 for the front only camera, and a staggering $540 for the dual camera kit. Amazon have a newer dual camera kit with a wifi link between the cameras, plus the Magic Pro low voltage cut-off gizmo, for US$280. Is that a no brainer, or am I missing something?

BTW I have prevaricated about the need for a dashcam as I don't do a lot of kilometres, and there is bugger all traffic here, but I still managed to get cut up a few days ago.

[EDIT] Bugger. The Amazon link above does not ship to New Zealand. Better keep looking.

I ended up buying the Blackvue DR-650GW-2CH from Amazon with the extended warranty, sent via Youshop. Having it installed this week.

Have not seen the wifi connected version, how would that work? You still need power to the rear camera.. Most of the Blackvue cameras have Wifi to connect up to the main camera via their app. It creates its own Wifi network that you hook your smartphone up to.

Looking at the Blackvue.com site (The manufacturers site), I see that both their 2 camera systems use the coax cable to connect the rear camera with video and power.

BTW: Not impressed with the "official importer" in NZ (Carcam.co.nz). Was no service to get there after they lost the sale of the Blackvue kit (mostly for being vague about what they though the CGA meant for warranty). Tried to buy extra coax cable there, and they gave a fib about not being able to sell the cable because it was "matched with the camera for warranty reasons".

Ended up having a talk with Pittasoft (the manufacturer) and buying it through their Ebay distributor.

What concerns me about dashcams is that you are generating evidence that could be used against you. I would rather one where it was all stored encrypted with something that can generate a key to decrypt just a portion of the video on the camera, so that if the camera is stolen, I dont have to worry about people getting personal information about times of travel etc, and if I am stopped by a cop for whatever reason there isnt any way they could get anything useful out of it if they were to just take it.

What I'd like is a dashcam with a "mark" button. I report bad drivers through the police website but I can only do that if I can remember the plate or have someone with me to write it down. What would be handy is a "mark" button so I could review, and ideally an upload from my car to my PC via WiFi.
