MikeAqua:
500km is workable (in the little car) for me too - assuming that's in real world conditions, not one of those cycle ratings (like fuel economy) that are rarely achieved in the real world.
Realistically I'm normally topping up around the 500km mark anyway on long trips.
Recharge time is a major consideration for me. I have no desire to further lengthen a long journey with long stops. I just want to get to "B"
500km in NZ is 6-10 hours of driving. Traffic is always slower somewhere and lots of little towns and lower speed zones.....
You should be taking a break LONG before then to be safe on the road. If you're setting out from Auckland and not taking a break until Bulls you're doing it very wrong.
The other aspect of this is the emissions. Stop for a 30 minute break in Taupo....as you should anyway....and you can get to Wellington in the same about of time as an ICE *and* be zero CO2 emissions.
No delay.
When an EV can do 500km there are no more excuses for burning fossil fuels and - at the minimum - flooding the homes of hundreds of millions in 30 years time. many a lot sooner than that.
Anyone notice January was the hottest month ever recorded in NZ?
Consider, then, that this show is just getting started....and to still be doing nothing NOW is a just nuts.
