This is a motel address I am going to stay in next week

2 Rose Street, Blenheim 7201
Marlborough, New Zealand

My Garmin Nuvi claims there is no such address. It has the latest NZ maps.

This is not the first time Vasco has failed to give me sensible answers. 

Any idea why such a simple address would give it problems?

It does not exist.

It should be 188 State Highway 6.

Why would the motel itself give a wrong address on their own website?!

Possibly because they have an entrance on Rose St as well which people find easier to get into..... but why the map dosent show that on your GPS, who knows.

Looks like it's the correct address to a motel on Google Maps? The address given by nakedmolerat seems to be the same property but no access to it from that road.

Youll probably find its two land titles owned by the motel as well and theyve closed off one driveway/entrance.

I used to have a test for the GPS. Every time I was in Taupo, I would park outside the big Countdown or whatever it is at the top of the main street and ask the GPS where the nearest supermarket was.

It was several years before it stopped trying to send me to Rotorua...!

It's annoying that the Garmin won't take post codes for address finding too.

It's about 2007/8 vintage so maybe I just need a newer one.

i used 2 GPS in my entire life. i garmin. i navman. both led me to middle of nowheres.

never went near any of them again.

google maps and human navigator all the way.

I haven't used a stand alone GPS unit for some time. Sygic or HERE Maps on my Note 3 has it covered.

I have a fairly recent Garmin that often refuses to accept that a place exists but you can send it the coordinates via the Smartphone link and it will happily take you there.

My old TomTom was good. I think it was a 720? When they switched to capacitive screens (model was 1000 from memory) everything seemed to turn to custard (Organization I was with had them, which were pretty quickly replaced with a "better" and newer model, which were almost as bad!). The last Navman I had was top of the line, but hopeless (unstable, bluetooth was too, update software was a nightmare - rather disappointed all up). Hopefully never again will I need to buy a standalone GPS unit.
