F1 still has massive issues with Verstappen being so far ahead of everyone else.

FTFY 😉

Put Verstappen in a Williams will soon fix that haha. Seriously though RBR cars are so far ahead of the field its depressing. I yearn for just one year we can have 8-10 different race winners in a season

Liam won't want to be sitting on the sidelines for a year - all though he's currently hot property, there is no way of seeing who could appear in the next 12 (or even 2) months. He needs to be on track as much as possible, and now he won't qualify for the rookie FP1 sessions for RedBull and AT.

Yes, this is my concern as well.  Lawson may be the talk of the paddock currently, but things change quickly in F1 and you just don't know who might be around the corner.  Another RB Junior has a stellar season in F2 and suddenly they become first cab off the rank for 2025 and Lawson disappears into F1 obscurity.

That said, he is probably in the pound seats currently.  He has Perez imploding, Sargeant imploding, and old-man Ricciardo still largely an unknown quantity in the AT.  He could come back to the seat, blitz Tsunoda and look the business, but equally he could still be the driver who got turfed from McLaren.

Tsunoda is the only one that is entirely safe for 2024 currently, as recent events with Honda/Red Bull have demonstrated.  Lawson gets potentially one last run at Qatar then is able to sit back and see which of Ricciardo, Perez, or Sargeant might make way for him, either relatively soon or in time for the start of the 2024 season.

I wasn't a fan of the "straight to Red Bull" option for Liam initially, but if Perez continues to be mediocre and Ricciardo gets schooled by Tsunoda when he returns, then suddenly that's a possibility.

"Old man Ricciardo", about 25% of the grid are his age or older. Alonso is 42, Hamilton 38, Hulkenberg 36, Ricciardo and Bottas 34, Perez 33.

Did occur to me this afternoon that things could change very quickly for Perez after the Mexico GP. Not even Redbull will want to lose all that Merchandise $$ by giving Perez the flick before Mexico!

When the Titan submersible imploded there was a lot of discussion about whether the occupants would have had time to be aware of what was happening. Some of the differences in lap times fall into similar ranges. If it isn't coming naturally how do you even start to string together the improvements? Some golfers have trouble holding it together for the duration of a swing.

I think the same applies to Sargeant.

I think the pressure is on both of them to go faster, so they're having to live right at the ragged edge. If you take even a 1:1000 gamble *every* corner to get that extra millisecond, you don't finish many races. And you have to maintain that intense concentration for the entire race, which would be very tiring and not enjoyable at all.

Read this today

However, it's understood pressure has been applied to both Ricciardo and Sergio Perez to retain their places in 2025, with the Kiwi to come into the car midway through 2024 should either fail to perform.

There is hope yet!

By the end of the season they are going to have good data on Riccardo, Yuki, Perez and Liam.

History says RB are quick to make changes when drivers don't perform. I think the most pressure is on Perez.

Another chance for Liam to keep his nose clean and add to his impressive start this weekend.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
