If Guptill pushes on its like 2 later batsmen? How? He's batting at about 95, thats well short of 7 an over
Edit, and with all this, there have still been good opportunities to blow wickets
Both of them are still under 80 RR, and NZ has had the run of the green.
Why is this not part of the sports forum, can a moderator please move it. Its taking up important off topic space ![]()

Taylor is less than 50% RR
When KW was batting it was under 50, when he went out it was low 60's and he went for a 6, so he got himself in to stay longer and was pushing on. Thats the plan
7 an over is not risky, cannot agree
He was batting 100% when he started but both him and Guptil went down, and now they are raising it again. If we dont get 250 with 8 wickets in hand I think we will lose.
Williamsons out was a bizarre shot. He felt the pressure his blocking was putting on. I think Taylor has just felt the same.
Yes 7 is not risky, we can easily acheive that if we get Phillips in for Latham and stagger the high SR players and get Williamson looking to play smart ODI cricket not focussing on his cricket technicalities, he gets bogged down as does Latham. I feel Taylor and Nicholls know how to pass on the strike and also score well themselves.
In saying all that, Pakistan have bowled very well today. But only 2 wickets out, we really need to put the foot down, Id have De Gron Holme coming in ahead of Nicholls, especially if its Taylor that gets out, then you will have Guptil and DGH going hard core for 10 overs.
Is there a cleaner hitter of the ball than Guptil. That lofted straight drive of his, is Cricket perfection. Looks like a Williamson block that goes for six. Just love that shot.
If you are not watching turn it on, NZ hit 203/2 with 10 overs remaining. Expecting some big hitting for 10 overs.
Guptil another 100, a bit slow at about 85SR but still, NZ's premier ODI batsman. I hope he can go on and get 180 off 120 :-)
edit: lol put the mocker on him, out.
Didnt realise hes scored close to 250 before.
Well done Williamson, putting De Gron Holme in now.
Taylor now another 50.

Yep haha. Hes my fav player too, :-(
De Gron Holme looks like hes hitting soccer balls when he bats. Averaging 48 now. Clearly due to a lot of lower innings not outs, but also some fabulous innings.
If we just had Phillips as well, we would be hitting 300 consistently.
285 is about par here. But I think we will get 270 and it still be too much for them, despite having 3 players averaging over 50. They are just out of Champion Trophy form.

7 is risky. This game, they were lucky, still well under 7
So, RR extremely slow by your standards, the payback is a target of 10 off the last 10. Had we batted at 7 all through, we would be 6 down at least, so the end of game rush starts at over 46
Its about balance
46th, they set themselves up for a score and are failing
wasnt a clear edge, it edged off the pad, but it just nicked the bat on the way thru, small hotspot
Nicholls - Fail
Latham- FAIL
Santner - Fail
Do we keep having to do this when we have batsmen scoring massive scores who have already played for the blackcaps.
Now De Gron Holme has to save us AGAIN !

What about the fails of the other batsmen? BTW DeG ran Sir Mitchell out, he called him through, even though he was backing up and Santner was on his back foot when he hit the ball.
A batmen fails when he plays a poor shot, that applies to any of them. When its a desperate run chase, its high risk, so not always a fail.

7 is not risky. if you truely believe that you are not believing we can beat Aus and Eng.
Id rather score 280 and be all out at 40 than 280 at 50. The reason being is if you play staggered high SR players and aim for 7RPO minimum and you get to 40 overs, more times than not you will have 4-5 wickets left, 80 off the last gives you 360. 360 will win you 9/10 against the top 3 teams.
Its not a question of whether we should or can, its a must. And we have proven with the right batting team we can do it consistently.
But right now we dont have the right middle order or a well balanced team.
You come up with some beauty denials of reality just for the sake of wanting the beige uniform and 250 being a good score, ie arguing for the sake of arguing.
Failing is when a batsman scores below 10. Santner was running the 2, he didnt turn and run hard enough, period.

Stop passing your opinion as fact. This team today is at 5.28 and lost 7 wickets. Its risky, if it wasnt then every game would be running at 7 from ball 1 to ball 300
If you run at 7, you may have 4 left, probably not. 8 RR is not hard at the end, but if most are tail enders, thats a fail.
We dont have a good enough team
I have no evidence to show we can beat Aus and Eng. WI was a non event, Pakis look the same but are better, their bowlers and fielders held us to what will be about 270, thats not great
Well at least we agree our team isnt good enough for it. But it COULD be. And thats ALL selection. Our middle order is 9/10 a crash. Put Southee into Lathams spot.
Well I called we would make 270 and it would have been but the bowler dropped it for the run out haha.
If Pakistan bat to their ability they will cruise home. If they continue what we have seen NZ will defend it.
70/8 off 10 is not a good final 10.
Imo its not important when you score the runs, its whether you score the runs. If you have 10 overs left but you score 300, who cares. NZ with 2 changes can score 300+ consistently. Bowling outside the premier bowlers makes very little difference in ODIs now, the ball is a rock hard kooky and if you have bowled with one you will know its like bowling with a field hockey ball, not only this but they have a new one at each end. So your team needs to be focused on batting and batsmen that can score 50 off 25. If you have 4 of them and 4 conventional batsmen, you will score 300 consistently.
