Some people here are just determined to find things wrong with the new government. There seems to be an awful lot of anger and bitterness in this. As a result we get silly comments like wanting to vomit or cover your face with your hands. Maybe those so overcome with animosity should just go do something else for awhile and quite polluting these threads with spiteful remarks that don't add anything. We all know how you feel about it. We don't need to hear it again and again. Go have a cup of coffee. Play with your children. Do something else for awhile. Give the government time to fail in some way that justifies your negativity. Then you can come back and complain about something real, instead of just your hostile anticipation.

On a positive note, they are extending R+D grants, to cater for those that fall outside the current Callaghan scheme, thats good for businesses who are innovating

Likewise, we know how YOU feel and you do not need to keep going on and on about it. Perhaps you need to take a break if it's all getting too much for you.

You never missed an opportunity to criticise the previous Government at every perceived misstep, not sure why you would have an issue with others doing it now?

The new Government is already failing in ways I consider warrants my negativity, they are enacting policies I fundamentally disagree with.

It's all they have and all they are capable of, they are currently being replaced in society as evolution marches ahead. It's not just New Zealand, it's all over. The writing is on the wall for a particular demographic and they don't like it at all. Yet they are completely helpless to stop it, since they are unwilling to change.

Which demographic are you referring to may I ask?

I'm happy to discuss policies. I don't want emotive claptrap and pointless bashing.

That would be a lot easier if they would release the costings of the suite of coalition policies. Refusing to do this should not be an excuse for a shield from criticism.

I didn't realise they have refused to release this. Looks like it will never be known then.

I agree. There is lots to fix, but at least they will give it a go, by doing something, rather than letting market forces manage these issues. I feel they will make progress, but will fall short. If they were smart they would admit well before next election that they will fall short but real progress has been made (if it has been).

Its a risk. But doing nothing or little is why we are here and they got in

They got in because of NZ First.  In the absence of NZ First ... who knows what would have happened.

The vote showed a desire for change, as did NZF. Paddy Gower had an interesting review the other day. If NZF goes well, the centre right will stay at well under 50% and centre left will be well over. There arent any more centre right to call on. Plus ACT will fold.

It's an interesting thing. I am not completely certain how these parties work, in tems of who has final say about things, but I know that a significant number of the NZF MP's wanted to do a deal with National. WP has said he wants the new Government to create a waka jumping rule to prevent those MP's from defecting, therefore destabilizing the Coalition which of course Labour was more than happy to agree with. Someone I know close to NZF made a comment that his feeling was the majority of NZF wanted National and WP overruled it. How true that is, I am unsure, but I have no specific reason to doubt this person. I know a few NZF voters not happy about the final result, expecting that NZF and the largest party were to be in power. Some of those made quite clear during their voting and conversations with NZF that was their expectation.

Lots of people wanted a change, I don't think everyone wanted a change in Government. Hand on my heart I have not *spoken* to one person I know or have met since the final result was posted who is happy with the result. Interestingly I met 3 greens voters over the weekend who wanted a Greens National coalition!

Purely observational but I was in the busy Koru lounge in Wellington at the exact moment of the announcement. Miserable faces and general lack of joy was very much the mood of the people there.

I sat next to a lady who owns a PR agency in NZ on the flight to Singapore and she was pretty unenthusiastic about it to say the least.

Everything seems to be happening haphazardly...little consultation..just spend spend when they "apparently" dont know how much they have to spend yet. I would sooner each Minister hold fire for a few more weeks until the new Govt had bedded down and their staff were in place. We are seeing announcement for all sorts of things so far. Take a breath guys or it won't be good news.

There are a few people here, just two or three, who want to dominate any political discussion with their own agenda and drive out anyone who disagrees. I am tired of all the anti-coalition rhetoric before the coalition has even had time to do anything wrong. At the moment they are still unpacking their boxes, settling in at their desks, and floating a few tentative ideas as possibilities. There seems to be an indecent haste to condemn them for policies that haven't even been tried yet....imo

My post was my opinion...I was chipping at you because you were not very nice to another poster with an alternate view to yours.

Are you by any chance referring to the poster who stated that I have difficulty with comprehension, who generally (repeatedly) questioned my intelligence and understanding, who informed me that I don’t understand how government works, and who suggests Trump was just a poor misunderstood soul who I refused to give an even break to? That wasn’t being so nice to me, either.

Edit: I was going to delete this but several people will already have seen it. Better to just say I have now chosen a different response.
