Perhaps because light rail has been publicly addressed. You clearly aren't happy with the answer but it has been covered extensively.

It was allowed to stagnate for years. Like I say, I don't recall RNZ or TVNZ going off because Twyford refused to answer questions about it.

The only reason it was even mentioned recently is because they ran out of time before the election and had to make some sort of decision on it at a cabinet level.

Eventually being 'Publicly addressed' is unsatisfactory after a full government term of senseless dithering with little to no scrutiny.

Generally the problem I find with state broadcasters is that most executives/administrators, and government policies, tend to push profitability over quality and access.

RNZ and TVNZ are generally underfunded whatever the government though. I've never remembered a time when they weren't under financial strain to push out content.

Though the push for profitability is a no-win scenario, as there isn't the population in NZ to support UK or US level entertainment and turn a profit. So it falls to whether it should be financially restrained and have limited quality and access, or run at a loss so that what people want to watch on TV isn't only on Sky.

Possibly because there was no need for a question as to why the Government decided not to go ahead. It was always in play. It was scuttled by Peters.

It was scuttled by Twyford's ineptitude and the process is subject to an auditor general complaint. Peters mercifully gave us a reprieve from the monstrosity it eventually became off the back of the unsolicited Superfund bid. But that it was allowed to drag on so long with relatively little media attention and get to such a state is pretty damning.

In fact, I can name just two outlets (Interest.co.nz and Newsroom) who gave it some level of coverage, and Thomas Coughlan at Stuff picked up on it when Bishop started asking pointed questions in Parliament. But for a policy with a clear completion date (supposedly to Mt Roskill by 2021) it was largely ignored by most others.

That woman McCullen was it? Shes gone. Twyford demoted, Clark demoted, its not new. Not sure why Walker is being got rid of as Todd said it was just an error of judgement to begin with, so his latest move is reactionary to his initial position.

I suspect Walker hasn't helped matters by giving different reasons for doing it.

Wonder if it's one of those "what else do I need to know" situations ala Clare Curran where the PM had to keep finding things out through journalists asking her questions.

Being expelled from a party is much much harsher than a ministerial de-frocking.

It is low and she has resigned from her CEO position at the Rescue Helicopter as a result (and as she rightly should have). The legal side of this will be explored and hopefully, if there is an avenue, both involved people will get what's coming to them.

Yes, and probably the last thing the Nats wanted to be associated with in the lead-up to the election.

Such an unbelievably stupid thing that can't really be justified on any level, no matter what you thought you were proving.

Very true. Ioinically his reasoning was to escape his racist comments which the document didn't do anyway. While this is a great story for those of us that currently support the current Government, so we can do the traditional banging on every day about it, (the Kiwibuild syndrome :-) the fact is its been done, its been caught, justice in whatever form will be served so that's the end of it, from me at least.
