Oh it's "teething issues", although I don't know what was wrong with the last arrangement that by all accounts worked quite well. Wait, he didn't want to pay for something that worked πŸ™„

Maybe he (Seymour) should be forced to eat his wonderful! new! improved! school lunches for a month and see how he likes it?

The whole purpose of Seymour’s lunch overhaul was to cut what he argued was “wasteful spending”. He was going to give students food they actually wanted to eat - as decided by him.

Yes, I so want a guy with no kids whatsoever...telling me what my children want to eat for lunch πŸ™„

Seymour is of an incompetence at sky-level high.

It's only incompetence if you think he isn't doing it deliberately as a next step in the journey of 'look, this is a total waste of money and we should can it altogether.' He clearly wanted to do it outright but the backlash meant he decided to soften us up a bit first with some Temu lunches so we could all decide for ourselves it wasn't worth it.

IMO he is Alt-Right. He can save money, provide better meais.

The reality is the meals are shite, the delays are everywhere. Its fine if you or me got a lunch an hour late, but not for school kids.

Cost? How you can remove one provider of school lunches and make them cheaper and better. Its one or the other. But it transpired that the meals are poor,  and they cost more money. Reported that one school pays 4 employees a few hours per day to manage the substandard, late meals. They are not funded, so the running cost of education are being reduced by this extra cost. The old provider covered the meals AND the logistics. Schools are now covering the logistics. So the meals are poor, they are late, and they cost more. Ask Seymour and instead of being a man and admitting the gross fail, you will get 23 excuses.

These alt-right twits are an embarrassment to the country, and themselves.

They say there's too much regulation and not enough freedom but when a private organisation does what they want, all of a sudden we need more regulation.

Make your mind up.

The fact that the margin is now a one seat slim majority, and how there's been some infighting in the coalition... I'm not counting my clovers just yet but maybe the coalition is on the verge of collapsing.

More likely this will be a one term government and the next government will need to clean it up.

And

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/541461/act-lead-david-seymour-driving-land-rover-up-steps-of-parliament-a-political-sideshow-pm

Labour leader Chris Hipkins said Seymour should have known better, given driving up the steps of Parliament had already been determined to be something MPs were not allowed to do.

"David Seymour has far more important things to be focusing his attention on at the moment than ram-raiding the steps of Parliament," Hipkins said.

Luxon tries a bit of whataboutism during Question Time in response to opposition questions why David Seymour shouldn't be sacked for getting involved in the Polkinghorne case, sadly(?) it blows up in his face:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/541549/they-all-got-sacked-pm-scores-own-goal-at-question-time

The Labour leader had asked why Luxon had not demanded a resignation from his minister David Seymour for writing a letter to police in support of Philip Polkinghorne, "when the ACT leader had said in 2023 that ministers interfering in judicial decisions should be prepared to resign the post if the prime minister thinks that's in the best interests of New Zealand".

Luxon - visibly tired by the line of questioning - reiterated his comments that Seymour wrote the letter while he was an MP and before he was a minister in the coalition government.

Instead of stopping there, Luxon went one further and used his answer to point to previous Labour ministerial scandals.

"I've just been reminded of the words of the Canadian songstress Alanis Morissette, who said 'isn't it ironic?' - because let me give you four names - Michael Woods, Meka Whaitiri, Stuart Nash and how about Kiri Allan."

What Luxon unfortunately forgot while attempting to nail a zinger was that all four of those former ministers were sacked - three of them by Hipkins himself, while Whaitiri was removed by then-Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Maybe he should have done his homework better? Or maybe he just needs to insert some funny into his jokes.

I was going to post in the WTF thread, but really belongs here.

Police on private trip to China were hosted by Chinese Communist Party leader

If no one sees how inappropriate this is...

School lunches revamp a disaster, principal says

“They’ve added a layer of admin and organisation at the beginning of the year, which we just didn’t need.”

Only someone planning on later shouting "school lunch is a disaster" to justify bringing it down would create a school lunch program that is a disaster.

Blame Seymour.

The headline suggested to me that a number of NZ Police members stayed at his house.

What a surprise, Seymour is not interested in something that doesn't impact him (or his wealthy donors) personally πŸ™„

I'm surprised about that. Compass is a provider of airline food and airlines are usually very careful to cater for all requirements?

RNZ: School lunch provider Compass has admitted the halal meals it delivers to schools are not halal certified. Stuff had reported a school in Papatoetoe raised concerns that the meals it was supplied were instead classed as 'halal friendly.'

The TVNZ article in the post above features an NZ Muslim person saying "the Muslim community wasn't asking for anything special but also for the vegan, vegetarian, Celiac and Jewish communities who also had dietary requirements","That's the diversity we're talking about, it's not just a Muslim issue". That is - similar issues are affecting other students who have specific religious, dietary or cultural requirements.
