Simon Court is a certifiable a$$hole. I can see why Seymour does all the talking for ACT.

I assume you saw his latest hit - telling a woman that beneficiaries should use menstrual cups to save money.

"gone too far"
No Luxon. Stop being light, stop pussy footing that your "epostle" gang leader is terrifying and actually caused a violent scene yesterday.
Which nothing will happen, and there are several comments in there that make me want to throw up. I have so many not FUG friendly words to describe this evil man.
Think I need a drink... or many.

This may make your drink(s) a bit more palatable - one of Tamaki's comments in that article was so (unintentionally?) hilarious that I actually spit out my own drink in laughter:
Tamaki also told 1News he could be the Elon Musk to Luxon's Donald Trump.
"Invite me in to get National out of the poo that they're in, and I guarantee you I'll get National polling high again and get that party doing what it should be doing."
What, like you did in 2023?
Yes, you spent an absolute fortune (I saw your many, many billboards all around the place) to get not even 10,000 votes, from a voting population of 2.88 million? Hell, even a crackpot like Liz Gunn got more votes than you!
LOL!!! 😄 I don't think Luxon needs your help, he's doing a fairly good job of failing all by himself! 😀
Get over your delusions of grandeur, you aren't half as popular as you think you are.

In America you don't need to be elected, you can bribe you way.

True, but his not-even 10,000 votes would have made next to 0 difference at the last election, which is the point I was trying to make - despite Tamaki's assertions, he's just not that popular.
Well, last week it was 'Mexicans go home'. Brownlee's spineless toad response has certainly showed Winston he can't get away with that! Because now we have this, which puts Winston now firmly in the 'racist old c***' category.
"Why is someone who applied to come to this country in 2006 allowed to ask a question of this Parliament that changes this country's name without the referendum and sanction of the New Zealand people?" Peters asked.
This is totally unacceptable behaviour from anyone who has been elected to Parliament, let alone the Foreign Minister or Deputy Prime Minister. I mean, I could argue: who loves their country more? Someone who gave up their entire life and shifted across the world to come here, or someone who was simply born here and didn't move away? That's not true either, but it's at least as true as 'as a migrant, your opinion is invalid'.
And rather than immediately eject Peters from the house to underscore it, Brownlee again waved his hands and said that he would consider whether it was OK to call this country 'Aotearoa'.

A protest site about Seymour's new! improved! school lunches.
Honestly some of these look disgusting - I wouldn't even feed them to a dog (if I had one), never mind feeding them to kids.
One principal who is at the "end of the line" for delivery is so disgruntled she actually invited him out personally to see the crap that they're being delivered every day under the new programme. Of course, he won't go near it, he'll wash his hands of it now:

Is this a fair criticism? Should Bayly have said on Friday what happened and that he was leaving his portfolios, or been given the weekend to "tell his family" (which is what ended up happening)?

I think it's pretty fair. I also wonder who was taking charge of those portfolios over the weekend, and why the Prime Minister stood on this for a good while?
Accountability goes far with the public and this looks like a genuine shitshow, albeit small but still one.

More issues with the school lunches this week, with a list of complaints and compliments:
He said there were 88 complaints about the menu appeal and 200 about the quality over the three years the old school lunch system ran.
"We've had that number of complaints in the first week just about, so there is definitely unhappiness across many of the schools."
Conversely:
RNZ asked how records were kept, to balance negative and positive feedback, after the lunch-overhauling minister David Seymour said: "We're getting a lot of feedback from principals who actually say they believe that their children think that the food is better than the previous offerings".
"Given the well-publicised challenges experienced by schools/kura in the rollout of the school lunch programme, it is expected that the majority of feedback we've received were concerns about the delays in delivery, special meal labelling and quality control of meals," the Ministry of Education told RNZ.
And finally, a good read about the company behind the new lunches and their poor employment history (mostly overseas):
In a recent letter sent to various ministers, she [school principal Chris Patel] thanked two officials from the Ministry of Education and the School Lunch Collective for visiting her small school “reflecting critically and actually showing that they know things need to change”.
But, she argued in the letter, “few households could make a substantial ‘healthy sandwich, piece of fruit, yoghurt and a muffin’ lunch on a $3 budget. The School Lunch Collective can’t either”. She went on to say that while she could understand why pies were brought in last Friday, “I don’t get why so many of you think it’s okay to almost celebrate it”.
Patel concluded by telling the ministers: “Perhaps this is what you want! Perhaps you want this to fail.”
I think she's right.
I wonder if the previous providers were asked if they could do what they were doing for maybe $5 if that would work, instead of these clowns delivering their slop that (mostly) Seymour himself seems to love, but not too many others? I know for a fact he doesn't personally eat this sort of thing himself for lunch every day.
Also interesting how this crowd doing the new meals always either decline to answer specific questions or hide behind generic press releases. I wonder if they eat their own companies product themselves, or think "it's only going to kids" and past that they don't care? 🤷♂️

They wouldn't have been reallocated until the next cabinet meeting, I would have assumed, which is usually Monday.
Zero working days of portfolio handover isn't really the issue here for Luxon, and announcing it Friday could have seen him accused of leaving something as late in the week as possible (ye olde OIA dumps on the last Friday before Xmas energy) but I genuinely don't get why he didn't take the opportunity to at least look like he was being decisive and get in front of this before Monday.
GV27:
.. I genuinely don't get why he didn't take the opportunity to at least look like he was being decisive and get in front of this before Monday.
Because he is not decisive. He seems to act like a puppet in Peter and Seymour's hands.
