You can't really negotiate until you know what you are negotiating with/for. Depending on the result a desired coalition may not even get the numbers required. However everyone involved knew before the election a negotiation would take place and the results for it would need to be ratified by the appropriate boards etc. Given Peter's earlier statements they knew they would need to meet tonight to review/ratify the deal. Even the Green Party has said they can take a proposal to their delegates to vote on fairly quickly. Either NZFirst board has no clue, or they are stalling.

If Nats went for minority Govt and had discussions with Labour and Greens, basically the same as NZF discussions this week to find accord on as many issues as possible, they could run with that. Labour and Greens would gain some power and make some things happen. NZF seats would then become valueless. The only issue with that as the people may like that, and vote down Labour and the Greens next time

I guess you can't take an "unexpected funeral" into consideration when you are trying to work to a very tight timetable. It appears that this was one unexpected cog in the works.

If he was a normal person instead of a donkey orifice he would factor the potentially unexpected into his original calculations and quit acting like such a precious self-important jerk. If he is too limited in imagination to account for the unexpected, then maybe he shouldn't be in government at all. Or maybe he just shouldn't make promises he can't keep, and then quit blaming the press and everyone else in the world for his shortcomings. Or maybe he should have done something really creative, and arranged his board meeting in advance, since he already knew everything would be wrapped up by Thursday (according to him).

Exactly - why wasn't the board meeting booked and all flights booked for a 0800 meeting today? And if someone can't make it due to a funeral, then they can go ahead with a quorum or that person can be represented by a delegate.

NZF are just coming across as a bunch of self-important amateurs at this stage

Also maybe the news about phones, Telecomferences, Skype, Video conferencing has not reached them. Maybe we should help out and sent Winston a text, no call him no, write him hmmm no. OK we can send him a carrier pigeon or a runner to tell him of the good news and these new fangled gadgets.

Today's NZ Herald article explains why a Labour-NZ First-Greens coalition is probably Winston's best choice.

The above article devotes a lot of space to personality issues rather than concentrating on policy that's in the best interests of NZ as a whole.

It's pretty much describing a Winston First party rather than a NZ First party.

And the Greens aren't mentioned much, they are "flying blind" and it seems they are pretty much prepared to do what Winston and Jacinda demand - unless that is, their membership tells James Shaw to get real and go with National!

According to papers, Winston is in all day caucus meeting where they are deciding on ministerial posts .....and will be contacting Labour/National by phone if needed.

If I had my way they would get none.
