It sounds close, its now in the hands of the other parties, so NZF have finalised and delivered their offers. If both come back with enough to satisfy NZF both ways, I guess Peters makes the call as the board have agreed on the offers, and no doubt agreed who to go for if both are acceptable, and that decision can be phoned through to the board members

Now Peters is in the position to be making offers?

Not the point. Peters has promised and failed twice now to the people of NZ.

I agree with Dunn...no matter what way Peters go it will end prematurely. Peters is a self obsessed liar.

Offers he and the other parties made to each other as regards policy concessions for NZF

National, Labour and the Greens now need to consult their caucus and in the Green Party's case, 150 party delegates, to sign off any agreement before Peters reveals his government of choice.

Green Party leader James Shaw said they wouldn't hold a Telecomference with their delegates on Wednesday night, the decision not to do so was made mid-afternoon before Peters announced his plans.

So, if NZF went with Labour and Greens, and Greens on confidence and supply only, then the Govt depends on the Greens. Unless they have given up on disagreeing with that outcome?

I think thats an over reaction. Its just an election, just a coalition negotiation, and its just 6 days after his end of last week deadline. Do we as citizens want this decision and negotiation to be 100% complete or do we want a quickfire meeting and just sign something pronto? Irregardless of who we want in, its all about National, Labour and NZF policies. To call it madness and compare to Trump is pretty bizarre. Sometimes we need to take a deep breath and stop looking for bandwagons to jump on. I leave that to Stuff comments to fill that gap

"We" voted Peters in, both those that voted and those that didn't exercise their right to vote. As the tired and boring cliche says, it is what it is.

There is a lot of bad blood with National, should they be in Opposition we will see that. He has good friends in Labour. I think the key issue with Greens is Turei is gone, Shaw seems normal. IMHO it will be smoother with Labour and fun to watch with National.

Lets give it a month

I agree, If NZF (not just Winston) go with National, it'll be 1996 all over again. Bill English will most likely be 'rolled' and Paula 'Mad Dog' Bennett becomes the leader/Prime Minister. She'll then do a 'Jenny Shipley' on NZF/Winston before 2020. As Split Enz once said, History repeats...

A coalition yes, but in practice it wasnt. Give Maori and ACT a few things and tell them to go away back to their corner while real people run the country, thats all it was.

Whatever happens this avo, democracy and MMP succeeded. It will be interesting no matter who the new Govt is, as to how it plays out with Winston Peters.

Well I read somewhere that the supposed Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" was urban myth.

Hope so - that it's interesting but not a curse.
