Yeah, like alcohol, NZ television, fast food, the Kardashians, many schools, anything and everything that someone somewhere doesn't approve of. The real destroyer of minds is narrow-mindedness.

Many things are. Decriminalising (or even legalising) normalises these things. That, in itself, removes a big attraction for some people.

gzt: Medical is currently legal in Canada and a recent court decision allows patients to grow their own. Now Canada will introduce legislation to decriminalize recreational cannabis:

Guardian: Canada’s Liberal government will introduce legislation to decriminalise and regulate recreational marijuana in spring 2017, according to the health minister, Jane Philpott.

Philpott, speaking on Wednesday at a special session of the UN general assembly in New York on drug problems around the world, said the Canadian law will ensure marijuana is kept away from children and will keep criminals from profiting from its sale.

Anyone can get medical marijuana in Canada and there's hundreds of legal pot shops. People seem to be able to smoke right in front of police with no repercussions and since the announcement that it's becoming legal for recreational use it's just everywhere. I doubt the police are bothering about it at all now. Vancouver has been like that for years. It used to be the city American's would go to for a weekend of smoking. Now, it's legal across the border in the US no doubt Vancouver's tourism has suffered 😉

This was in Montréal last week, on the annual weed day. Lots of fresh air to breathe 😄

Legalisation is coming and it's a good thing. There's more important things for police to focus on.

I am sure the after effects of decriminalisation (which I conceded will most like occur in my lifetime) will be felt in the same way lowering the drinking age has had. Yay for that brilliant idea!

Stupid people will make stupid decisions......probably over a joint.

In Singapore 500g of this stuff will incur a mandatory visit to the hangman.

Not saying good or bad, I don't know the ethical answer to this.

So your mind is already made up and you don't want to be confused with the facts? Decriminalisation can't make things worse than they already are, and all indications are that it will make them better. Try reading some of the data posted on this thread. Oh, wait, your mind is already made up.

Isn't that my prerogative? I was a smoker of mary jane for nearly 10 years. I am now 12 years sober. So tell me again......who's mind is made up? I dont give a rats that you smoke, I am not going to listen to others people's posts for or against. MY MIND IS MADE UP....and so is yours - so I reserve the right to make my comments.

So is yours. Because someone disagrees with you, same comments, your mind is made up. That makes for a balanced discussion, not.

The thing that everyone seems to keep missing is that criminalisation has been tried, decriminalisation has not. The thing that has been tried hasn't worked very well. The thing that hasn't been tried may or may not work better. That is where opinion comes in. My opinion, based on my own experience and some reading of studies and things tried elsewhere, is that decriminalisation would likely work better. But no-one can know for certain until it is tried. It is the stubborn refusal to even consider another approach that I find perplexing.

Did you ever consider why you started and why you stopped, and what part the legal status of cannabis had on that?

Your 10 years continuous use seems to suggest that prohibition didn't work.
