Religion has been the cause of much harm in the world, but in my experience it has been the reason for considerably more good.

Im my experience, it's been the opposite... You might have seen a bit about it in the news.

There's a difference between "religion" and "morals".

Morals should be upheld and part of communities & govt... Religion in communities, fine. In govt, never. (IMO)

But that won't change in a hurry in the US, they still think of corporations as people and take money to make legislation.

I don't think all theists are creationists. I have spoken to many theists christians, or otherwise who do not believe the world is 6,000 years old, or that it was all done in 7 days, because the scientific evidence says so.

I do know of atheists who believe vaccines and wifi are killing their kids while alcohol and fast food is harmless, against every scientific evidence presented to them.

Point is, science or not,

1 - it does not fully understand everything,

2 - people will still believe what they want regardless of "current best explanation from best interpretation of best available evidence",

3 - anyone who doesn't share one's beliefs are automatically weirdos, as much as weirdos are such to me, I'm just as likely as weird to them, if not worse.

Day is one English translation of the Hebrew word 'yowm'. That same Hebrew word can also be translated as a period of time.

Thus, God took matter, that already existed, and formed it into the world.

I've mentioned just two mistranslations that occurred going from Hebrew to English. Let us remember that Hebrew is not the language that Adam spoke, and so it's unknown how many mistranslations could have occurred from the language of Adam to the Hebrew scripture.

The big bang theory suggests that in the beginning matter was extremely hot, enough to kill all known life forms here on Earth.

So I can only conclude that life came here from an external location. Personally, I believe life was put here by design, others may believe it came here by accident.

So to me, there is no conflict between the big bang theory proposed by scientists and the creation of the world by God. Indeed, they support each other.

Going back to the Presidential things. I've noticed that some candidates try to appear Christian only when they are speaking to Christian audiences. If they are Christian then be Christian 100% of the time, not only when it works in your favour with Christian audiences. It makes them appear to have little integrity and it can cause non-Christians to see Christianity in poor muddled light. Jesus, whether one accepts Him as the anointed or not, cannot be refuted as a great moral teacher, the Moslems recognise him as a Prophet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_in_Islam). In Matthew 22, Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, this is his reply:

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

This is one of the root tenets of Christianity. The atheists and agnostics, due to their indifference towards God, may want to brush aside what is listed as the first commandment, but I strongly doubt anyone can refute how everyone "loving thy neighbour as thyself" would not make the world a better place. Out the window would go dishonesty, greed, lust, abuse, laziness, taking offense easily, unforgiveness etc. I believe this is why the protestant Christian nations have flourished over the past couple of hundred years. Throwing away "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." will only be at our own peril.

There is a few commandments Trump and many of his predecessors were strangers to and did not want obeyed. If everyone loved their neighbour Presidents would be out of work. Don't get me started on adultery, murder or coveting ones neighbours As or Aston Martin.
