The reporting on the views of the CTU as if they are a politically neutral organisation is laughable. They're a lobby group and they should be treated as such.

Luxon has an...interesting interview on Q+A: https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2023/09/10/qa-review-luxon-interview-train-wreck-crashes-into-school-bus-and-petting-zoo/
Is there a link to the video? I could not locate it

Off course they are, so like any lobby group, take with a grain of salt. The other points are valid.

I'm not seeing many other lobby groups have their talking points pressed to Hipkins in the same way the CTU's get put to Luxon or Willis.

You're diverting. I made a simple post, prefaced by "Another day of farce in this election" There were, IMO, valid points that I raised re National, Peters and Labour. The CTU lobby comment as we agree is biased and irrelevant, but you focus on that, and ignore the rest? Watch the video that Azzura kindly linked. Forget about the CTU and any other biased lobby group.
Hipkins/Labour has been raised as the cause of everything ill in NZ, thats daily news. Thats what they get measured by. A budding new party needs t get measured too, on their policies and how they pay for them. CTU is not the only one scrutinising that. Labour is getting plenty of scrutiny, National should as well

I'm not diverting. I'm remarking on the organisation that took out front-page hit ads on the National Party leader being quoted as if they are an uninterested party when it comes to scrutinising National policy by media, for weeks at a time. I am free to do so.
Ill repost my post
Another day of farce in this election
National is still refusing to say which parts of what it calls the back office bureaucracy of government it would cut to fund its tax cuts.
National leader Christopher Luxon refused to answer our questions on what was off the table.
He walked off it seems. Make of it what you will.
Peters
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters made the claim that Māori are “not indigenous” while speaking at a public meeting in Nelson on Sunday.
“Here’s the rub if you are Māori. We’re not indigenous,” Peters told his supporters.
Technically he is probably correct, but this is not technically, its getting inches in the newspaper. (ok, 0's and 1's these days)
I cannot find an article to bag Labour in order to keep this post relevant and balanced. Until tomorrow or the next day, GST free broccoli dominates. Pity for me who grows my own, its bigger and fresher, and includes GST
This is borderline crazy, we all know that every 3 years its vote buying, thats human nature. But health, education, infrastructure, ciimate change/mitigation, still waiting
They are only really responding to the issues that have polled as being the most important - the cost of living crisis.
We all know that education, health, justice and infrastructure are important, but unless someone is at the wrong end of a sector in chaos (on waiting list too long, kids being allowed to run amuck at school etc) then the are all put down the priority list and whilst not "unimportant", a party that is pushing for solely improving these areas is going to struggle to gain traction.
The sad thing is this election is Nationals to lose, they could have focussed on some core areas, campaigned on stabilising the country for 12 months and then looked to tax cuts to relieve the financial pressure. Instead they threw out the election candy to buy votes they likely already had anyway and now their arguments and assumptions in the costings in quite rightly being criticised, it will simply weaken their position, not strengthen it.

Tax has been left on the back-burner so long that it's past overdue to be addressed. The fact something else has popped up isn't an excuse to leave it on the back-burner even longer. You shouldn't be able to leverage your neglect of the tax system into a political talking point to your benefit and that's what Labour and their acolytes are trying to do.

On a less serious note - with regular 8am scheduled meetings for parliamentarians in central Auckland accessible on alternate days by car and public transport of course ; ). Serious if I could make that part happen.
Quicker to drive to the airport and fly to Wellington every day 😆

So long as they pay their carbon tax to offset the emissions and prevent the plant warming up......
Keeping them in Wellington has the added benefit of keeping them in Wellington. Auckland has enough problems as it is.
