MikeB4: The Brown Shirts, Sturmabteilung was an organised para military organisation of considerable size circa 400,000 which grew to approx 2,000,000 It was armed and structured talk of anything like that in the US and associated with the President and or Republican Party is an over reaction.

Watch the NRA CEO's speech at CPAC.

Not over reaction. Rather, early warning.

These things worry me ...

  • Leader is egomaniac.                 Here today, gone in four years or less
  • Strong focus on national pride. America first, make America great again. Americams are very patriotic, thats fine, no change
  • Common enemy to focus anger. Immigrants and Muslims.          Helps make the US look stupid by going against the global trend of multi cultural
  • Facts replaced by slogans.                     Ego. Nothing to see here
  • The free press is the enemy.                  Ego, nothing to see here, Narcissist.
  • Liberals are the enemy.                         Thats politics in any country, side A vs side B
  • Dismissing the law of the courts             Bad, the courts rule, as has been seen
  • Assertions that violent crime is on the rise and the rule of law must prevail  Rule of law should prevail. Gun law is their issue
  • Significant build up of the armed forces.   Policy, right or wrong, its not to take over the country to make a fascist state

CPAC is a party. Whats important is the policies, what is being enacted, the direction he wishes to go to make America great again. Relations with other nations, conflict zones, trade. We have seen the ban, gone. Wall is currently on drawing board 2. Thats it. I'm quite happy he and his cronies rant away, and dong nothing. Better that than trade deals that hurt NZ, warships in South China Sea, and so on. Long may the ranting continue. And plus 1 for the Constitution and the courts. Soon, it will be back to normal, new leader, and him/her managing their country

You mean a bit like the NRA which currently has 5 million members and who's leader has called for the NRA to fight the "war" against Trump?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K71n2Hf3-NA

That is a huge difference compared to an organized Paramilitary. Most would crap themselves if faced with regular forces. They would be crushed very quickly. Playing toy soldier in the weekend does not make an army.

Yeah, but 70% of the population will be no match for the 30% of the population that have bought into the populist message, have the automatic weapons, and the sympathy of the armed forces and police (thanks to all the cash and attention they will shortly receive).

This is 2017, not 1917. While he won, he lost the popular vote, the squeaky wheel of his supporters is loud, thats all it is, a squeaky wheel. His own party are biting at his shins, as are seemingly everyone else. Thats only in his country, then you have the global opinion of him. He is spinning the wheel and too many are being sucked into the hype. He should be running Apple or Samsung or Microsoft

Too much hysteria going on here.

Hard to believe when you look at the quality of the US administration, the plans, and the ideology.

I agree. Trump is a glitch. And once he is gone, the US populous will vote in a more circumspect manner in 2020.

New York Times ad has provoked a lie from Trump.

“For first time the failing @nytimes will take an ad (a bad one) to help save its failing reputation. Try reporting accurately & fairly!”

Quite a good article here.

Gives hope for a backlash, if and when he is caught using behind the scenes tactics to affect the press and re Russia

Yes, but as well as Trump still having massive support from GOP voters, those people also have a remarkably (IMO) favourable view of Putin, they also seem to not care that Trump (and family) are enriching themselves, that Trump is routinely lying, about Bannon's extremely dangerous ideology etc etc.

I'm amazed - there was a bit of a post election "perhaps he'll be okay" boost to his approval rating - followed by slump down to the ~40% approval rating which seems rock-solid at the moment.

IMO, if he's going to be "caught" - it's going to need to be in a huge way with no "plausible deniability" option. Chipping away at him with valid credible criticism isn't working now - and I doubt it'll take him down - he's been "forgiven" for future transgressions as well as past.

IIRC (long time ago) the US public (and probably conservatives especially) was almost as shocked by the apparently prolific use of bad language by the POTUS as the fact that he was a crook (the frequent use of "expletive deleted" in the Watergate tape transcripts). Times change, but then again some things remain the same.

I'm confident that Bannon has a plan and will create some form of a "Reichstag Fire" event.  What form that will take - who knows?  I just hope it's recognisable for what it is - he's very clever.

If frigging Trump does end up walking the plank, no doubt the new president Pence would pardon Trump for all his misdeeds the same way Nixon was pardoned by Gerald Ford. One hand washes the other.

For sure. But all this liar, leak etc stuff, is doing no harm to the rest of us. Just watching them sink day by day.

At last, we have the answer. According to Bill Maher, Trump's odd complexion is due to him being "the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan."

Well yeah - but I assumed it was a joke, DNA tests could prove it wasn't actually true, probably.

Trump's said far worse - and he surely wasn't joking.

His mother has nothing to do with any of this and its just bad taste and unnecessary and clearly shows the opponents of Mr Trump are no different to the supporters.
