tdgeek: , too many give him too much credibility. Hi isnt doing much, he wont do much, and he will be gone.

You are missing an enormous amount of very significant things.

This period in history will NEVER be forgotten. We are living through one of the most dangerous times the world has seen since the 1930's. For many many decades the world will keep asking how did democracy get things so wrong. Maybe there is a better answer than democracy in such times when social media seems to rule the world and enables people to degrees never seen before.

For myself, I read the newspapers and watch news bulletins on a daily basis and continue to be shocked and dumbfounded at what I see. We see it in NZ where Stuff seems to be dominated by so called journalists who continue to write one sided opinion pieces. When leaders of nations can use social media to lie to the people on a daily basis and so many people believe him/them. We see Brexit occur through use of social media and lies. Every day it is becoming more and more acceptable.

The same things are being done just different means and quicker to the eyes and ears.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I disagree. The start of this thread was WW3. The Wall. Jailing Clinton. Trade tariffs galore. Mass bans.

None of this has happened or looked like happening. The worst he has done was just announce that oil drilling will be expanded at the expense of climate change and environmental safety, and that will be put back in place when he is gone.

The deserved mockery of him keeps him newsworthy every day, but he does nothing every day, he is too busy ranting and tweeting, which are just words. All in all, I prefer him the way he is as he is impotent and working hard to ensure he is voted out.

Its not dangerous. There is no WW1, WW2, or WW3. NK is talk, Trump is talk, thats all it is, they both cannot act. So they bark. Democracy got things 100% correct. Why? As the votes were cast. Whether that is superb marketing, lack of a DEM candidiate, or disillusionment by the masses, the masses voted. Same with Brexit, people not happy. Clearly Trump is not delivering his Great America, so the next election is already decided. Democrats, or a Trump free GOP.

Yes, this period wont be forgotten, it will be remembered for the joke it is, not the danger it created globally, because it hasnt. Its just been a freak show, nothing more. The next POTUS will be loved as he/she will "appear" as awesome in comparison to the previous 4 years. Wind back the small few negative changes he made, restore relations, and life will go back to normal

Let me see... Republicans in bed with religious right, supported by an increasingly xenophobe and racist layer, plus people with no education. On the other side Democrats that can't get their supporters to go out and vote.

Yes, the next election is the answer...

Id expect they will be out in force now, and find a better candidate. GOP will find a better candidate (that wont take much), but Id expect a big vote comparitively, based on the last 4 years (if it goes 4 years)

Time will tell. I hope you are right but I think you are wrong. Trump is genuinely dangerous. Not because he is clever, but because of the passions he arouses.

Assuming that Trump somehow manages to last the remaining 3 years of his term, then there's not much chance the GOP can "find a better candidate" than a POTUS seeking a second term.  Trump filed for registration of his 2020 campaign on the day of his inauguration - a year ago.  "Dump Trump" and the GOP would lose Trumpists - probably some 30% of US voters.

GOP in bed with the religious right isn't anything new.

People better wake up their ideas and take notice of how easy it is for them to have their thoughts manipulated via social media and propaganda.  Whether it was the Kremlin in a deliberate act to disrupt "US Hegemony" - or just a loose coalition of Oligarchs and other interested parties feathering their own nests, it worked.

He's also surrounded himself with sycophantic scumsuckers who'd do anything possible to further their own interests - under threat of losing everything if they fail to publicly heap praise on Trump and thank him for the opportunity to serve under him.  They pledge to serve him - not the US public.

Ever since the first 'Terminator' movie, people have been saying, 'Wow, Skynet could easily happen. A supercomputer could take over the world and wipe us out.'

Well, guess what? Skynet is here, but we call it 'Internet'. And every time a lie, innuendo, half truth or smear is promulgated over Skynternet, civilization slides a little further down the slippery slope towards chaos. Our culture is being steadily demolished by phone-mad children, tablet-tapping teenagers, fools and genuine morons, who have only to 'Tweet' (God, I hate that word) some brainless statement to have half the population accept it as truth.

Stick your head out the window and listen. Hear that faint moaning sound? It's the whimper that Mr. Eliot warned us about.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

One of the best posts I have seen here. Many plus 1's.

Ignorant, fearful people used to burn witches. Now they spew their brainless vitriol on Facebook and Twitter and elect presidents.

For those not familiar with T.S.Eliot's poem "The Hollow Men"

This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Zuckerberg's started 2018 with a post on his own FB page, basically a meaningless aspirational pledge to do an undefined "something" - whilst deflecting by arguing that a small number of "big tech companies" - and "Government" are seen to "centralize" power rather than "decentralize" it.  Buzzword shyte.

No acknowledgement that he runs one of the biggest and most pervasive of the "big tech" companies.  Nothing actually meaningful at all, except by lumping Government in with organisations like his (which exist solely to make money) to imply that they're the same, then reject any notion that what he/FB does should be regulated, as that's (abuse of) centralized power.

Never forget when assessing what Zuckerberg says, what Zuckerberg really is.

Whatever he is, it's not hot. There isn't enough money in the world to make him hot.
