Actually on the Wall, it was Roger Stone's idea. It wasn't a serious idea, it was just an idea to uplift Trump strategically. Wow factor etc. Hence it was yakked about, and slowly it has been allowed to fade away

Sydney Morning Herald - At UN speech Trump suffers fate he always feared - public humiliation

United Nations: US President Donald Trump has long argued that the United States has been taken advantage of by other nations - a "laughing stock to the entire World", he said on Twitter in 2014 - and his political rise was countenanced on the premise that he had the strength and resolve to change that.

But at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump got a comeuppance on the world's biggest stage.

Delivering a speech that aimed to establish US "sovereignty" over the whims and needs of other nations, the President's triumphant moment was marred in the first minute when he was met by laughter - at his expense.

The embarrassing exchange came when Trump boasted that his administration had accomplished more over two years than "almost any administration" in US history, eliciting audible guffaws in the cavernous chamber hall. ...

For Trump, the moment wasn't just embarrassing.

It also punctured one of the core fabulist assertions of a President who has, according to Washington Post fact-checkers, made more than 5000 false or misleading statements since taking office.

Opinion if this will hurt his devoted supporters? I guess not, but as they are a very patriotic lot (which I very much admire), Americans  surely they can see the embarrassment to their nation?

If his "base" supporters were capable of being embarrassed, they would not have elected Trump in the first place - he is a walking, talking embarrassment.

I blame the millions of people who didn't bother to vote.  undecided

Trump deserves to be humiliated - his country does not.

I agree. I have been there a lot, grass roots. They are a great people. 1 person doesn't represent the 300 million, although legally, he does.

Typically US elections are a 51% 49% result, or closer. Very very few people influence an election, they are the swing voters. Roger Stone orchestrated that in the rust belt. Of all those that voted for Trump, many actually voted with their upbringing, Republican.

While it is funny, its really sad as well.

As they say, the cream will rise to the top, or in this case, the molasses will sink to the bottom

Normal transmission will resume in 2020, or sooner. And whoever that may be, will be the toast of the world and Americans, as he/she winds back this farce.

I wouldn't be so sure. Unless Trump is actually successfully impeach (which I believe very unlikely), I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets a second term.

We hear all the time how bad Trump is, and he really is, but who are the Democrats offering as an alternative? I fear they are just counting on the idea that there is no way Trump could get re-elected, and that whatever candidate they put forward will win. They thought there was no way Trump could win in 2016 either. If they don't learn from history they are doomed to repeat it.

On top of that, Trump has set precedent that anyone can be president if they are popular enough and willing to appeal to peoples base instincts and ignorance - you don't need experience, diplomacy, understanding, or even basic competence.

If the Democrats take the high road and lose again, then 2024 will see them adopting a similar strategy. Then no matter who wins, everybody loses.

The US media seem to be consistently reporting this as the alleged "Sexual Misconduct".  That term could apply perhaps to someone making an unwise "pass" at another person, watching a bit of porn on a work computer etc.

The allegations are in fact that a SCOTUS nominee is a rapist, and that he drugged young women in order to have unconsented sex with them.

Arguing that this may have been "boys will be boys" and normal "hi-jinx" student behaviour is disgusting.
