Fred99:

The US media seem to be consistently reporting this as the alleged "Sexual Misconduct".  That term could apply perhaps to someone making an unwise "pass" at another person, watching a bit of porn on a work computer etc.

The allegations are in fact that a SCOTUS nominee is a rapist, and that he drugged young women in order to have unconsented sex with them.

Arguing that this may have been "boys will be boys" and normal "hi-jinx" student behaviour is disgusting.

I always find it difficult to be impartial with regard to issues like this.

I hate Trump and his cronies and his SCOTUS nominee also looks like a the sort of person I would dislike if I ever met him. Seeing Trump squirm because his appointee is in difficulties cheers me up enourmously.

However my sense of fair play says everybody is innocent until proven guilty and apart from the spoken allegations there is no actual evidence yet of what took place. I think it is a very dangerous step in the wrong direction to always believe the accuser without some evidence or irrefutable corroboration.

Even after the senate hearing it may not be any clearer as you don't know who is telling the truth even if they are under oath.

TBH without some solid evidence eg forensic/photographic/audio I suppose you just have to try and make a value judgement on the spoken evidence but then subconscious bias is impossible to avoid.

Stephen Colbert brilliantly breaks down Trump's laugh-filled UN appearance

The World Unites In Laughing At Trump (5 minutes)

Colbert runs through Trump's disastrous appearance at the UN on Tuesday, showing clips of the attacks the president made on other countries and proclaiming, “He's working the room like an insult comic."

I suggest that you read the editorial in today's New York Times:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/26/opinion/kavanaugh-supreme-court-hearing-delay.html?action=click&module=MoreInSection&pgtype=Article&region=Footer&contentCollection=Editorials

These are grotesque charges — and, like the previous ones, they leave oceans of room for speculation and doubt. This is precisely why the Senate needs to stop trying to ram through this nomination by some arbitrary deadline and arrange for a thorough and nonpartisan inquiry.

...

This is not, as Republicans have claimed, a matter of demanding the destruction of a man’s career based on vague or unsubstantiated claims. It is a matter of treating such allegations with the proper gravity. There is no other way to protect the integrity of the nominating process — and of the nation’s highest court.

Just watched Jacinda's speech live. Beautiful speech, main point: we all need to work together to fix our problems. Reject isolationism. Lots of things in there that Donald Trump will hate.

Trump Holds Crazy Press Conference to Defend Brett Kavanaugh
A Closer Look

"...To recap, Trump lied, got laughed at,
then lied about getting laughed at,
and then Fox News lied about Trump's lie about how he got laughed at for lying"

And just when you thought it couldn't get worse, we see the vid above. Makes sense that Trump's supreme Court pick is as big a liar as he is.

Well, he started off as might cause WW3. He does little except rark up his allies and increase prices for his people's purchases by his trade wars. Now he has added a new triumph, the world doesn't matter, just the US. The rest of us will continue to work together to remove involvement with the US as much as is possible, thats already happening with trade talks. That will be his greatest accomplishment. The state of the politics in the GOP, means that if he is ousted next election, or fails to be the nominee, and Republicans win, the world will have no trust. Trump just now seems to be the worst of an already bad lot

kingdragonfly: Trump Holds Crazy Press Conference to Defend Brett Kavanaugh

Trump seems to have a lot of trouble pronouncing polysyllabic words. We laugh at his stumbles because he is such a self-important moron, but I can't help wondering if there may also be something else going on. This could be a sign of dementia or a mini-stroke.
