But OTOH there appears to be a kind of delusion going on that "there must be balance" - so that there's a fair "horse race".

Fox certainly weren't behind Trump during the primaries, it's almost a surprise (not really) that they did such a flip-flop despite Trump becoming more extreme, anti-constitutional, and downright evil as time has gone on.

I suspect Trump's continued support has a lot to do with the people who are supporting him. He has unleashed all the anger and resentment of significant parts of the population who feel exploited and ignored by the political establishment. Now that all this anger has emerged, it has to go somewhere. Trump is the focus and the hero of the hour for people who feel this way. If he is brought down, they lose that focus. I think that is why they will continue to cling to him almost regardless of any scandal, and why they will rationalise their support. He was telling the truth when he claimed he could shoot someone in the street and it wouldn't make any difference. The people who back him feel a great need for someone like him and now that they finally have that someone, they won't let go easily. Just look at all those rapturous faces in the crowd photos. Many Americans are strongly drawn to messianic quasi-religious figures. They have a history of that. Trump is just the latest in a long line. The irony of Trump as a messiah is lost on them.

Nicely put. Having said that, I think these people have a reasonable reason to be unhappy. America isn't the great country she once was and I don't see improvement in that under Clinton (or Trump). Unfortunately, the state of the USA right now has a lot to do with the division in it's population and I don't think they have a leader who can effectively heal that. I believe it would take a massive event to reunite them. Obama was their best chance at a leader to heal some of the gap but for various reasons he couldn't achieve it. Right after Obama was elected the first time, the USA was in the best headspace I could recall in recent memory. Following Bush probably made that a fairly natural thing though. I think the world, and a good chunk of the US breathed a massive sigh of relief.

Its getting crazy or crazier. He still has a lot of support. He has dropped in the polls, but its not like he has 10% of the vote. Fox is a Republican supported channel?

Others arent? That is crazy stupid. Democratic? No.

A part of me wants him to win, to expose this idiocy to the world, and pity the US citizens who didn't want him. Its supposed to be a vote, but its Marketing 202

I just feel sorry for 300 million Americans, some who would see him win and hate that, the others who want him to win for the wrong reasons. Nov 9 is too late though.

The way I see it, is that while they are both famous, he is getting so much spotlight. If the average American is at the point where they don't focus on the issues, but they take an emotive approach, anything an happen. That comment of mine is so bizarre given what he has dome, but maybe thats the American way, the loudest get the tick.

Is he an idiot though? His claims that the media was part of a conspiracy have resulted in people choosing not to believe anything the media is saying. His claims that the Dems are bussing illegals in to vote is resulting in more of his supporters turning out. There's now squads organised to "oversee" election day (i.e.. intimidate voters). Trump has set things up so that if he loses then it's because of fraud (and some of his supporters are talking about overthrowing the government should that happen). And, if he wins the popular vote, then the electoral college gets put in a lose/lose situation. Trump has stirred people up for action in the event he is not chosen. Whatever agenda he is working to, it seems this is strategy rather than idiocy.
