BBC News - Trump's blistering letter to Pelosi: Five key quotes
today
Donald Trump has some words for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the congressional Democrats on the eve of his impeachment.
Over six pages, on White House letterhead, the president piles adjectives like cords of wood, fires rhetorical fusillades in all directions and invokes the judgement of the American people, the nation's founding fathers and history itself.
Here are five choice lines from a president whose capacity for the extraordinary and unprecedented is ever-expanding.
1. "You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!"
2. "Even worse than offending the Founding Fathers, you are offending Americans of faith by continually saying 'I pray for the president', when you know this statement is not true, unless it is meant in the negative sense."
3. "You are turning a policy disagreement between two branches of government into an impeachable offence - it is no more legitimate than the Executive Branch charging members of Congress with crimes for lawful exercise of legislative power."
4. "You know full well that Vice President Joe Biden used his office and $1bn of US aid money to coerce Ukraine into firing the prosecutor who was digging into the company paying his son millions of dollars."
5. "I write this letter to you for the purpose of history and to put my thoughts on a permanent and indelible record. One hundred years from now, when people look back at this affair, I want them to understand it, and learn from it, so that it can never happen to another president again."
Read the whole letter here.
This letter is an extreme example of Trump egomania.

I read the first three pages. I'm not completely convinced it was written by him. I think he probably dictated a couple of hours of stream of unconciousness twaddle and some poor staffer had to collate it. I only say this because it has complete sentences.

nathan:
You can't hate a President out of office. The American voters decide on their President, not a bunch of neoliberal Elites telling voters what they should think, especially when history shows their policies are fail.
.....
The latest poll shows Trump winning over every single Dem candidate.
Cherry-pick whatever suits your predilection. The latest poll also says that 74% of voters want Trump to allow his aides to testify and even 63% (if my memory is correct) of republican voters agree.
In the meantime, there are demonstrations in cities across America calling for his Impeachment. Even in Louisiana! Even in Louisville, Kentucky! The neoliberal elites are out in force!

@nathan: The impeachment process guarantees Democrats will spend at least another 4 years out of office. The Dems do not have the 2/3 numbers in the Senate. End of story.
But what happens then? Since if Trump does win a second term then the following will be true.
But what happens after all of that? There is zero chance after the impeachment process in the House that any sense of normality or rule of law will return, and since the Senate and other key figures have already decided irrespective of the evidence.
I read a brilliant article from Harpers from 1941 and even though it does come close to Godwins law violation in the FUG to me it seem very appropriate response.

That specific FUG restrictions was lifted for this thread when it started. Trump and his people are nazis.

The Washington Post - On impeachment eve, Trump repeats the crime
Dec. 18, 2019
It was as if an accused white-collar criminal, during jury selection for his bribery trial, had offered the judge a briefcase full of unmarked bills.
Or if a drug offender, taking the stand to defend himself against charges that he trafficked in narcotics, had tried to sell a brick of cocaine to the jury foreman.
But it really happened. Even as the House on Tuesday worked out the rules of the debate that will almost certainly see President Trump impeached by Wednesday night, Trump and his team continued to commit the very offenses for which he is being punished.
As the Rules Committee moved to the floor an impeachment article alleging Trump had abused his office by soliciting foreign help for his reelection campaign, Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, boasted to CNN that Trump is “very supportive” of Giuliani’s ongoing efforts to dig up political dirt in Ukraine that would help with Trump’s reelection campaign.
It was the latest stop on Giuliani’s media tour - of Fox News, The New Yorker, The New York Times and The Washington Post - boasting about Trump’s active engagement in Giuliani’s attempts to get dirt on Joe Biden and to bulldoze, with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s help, U.S. officials who stand in their way. ...

Lets hope the polls showing support for the impeachment will encourage Republicans to vote for the facts and the rules of the constitution.

The Washington Post - Some House Democrats push Pelosi to withhold impeachment articles, delaying Senate trial
Dec. 19, 2019 at 8:44 a.m. GMT+13
A group of House Democrats are pushing Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other leaders to withhold the articles of impeachment against President Trump that are expected to emerge from the House Wednesday, potentially delaying a Senate trial for months.
The notion of impeaching Trump but holding the articles in the House has gained traction among some of the political left as a way of potentially forcing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to conduct a trial on more favorable terms for Democrats.
And if no agreement is reached, some have argued, the trial could be delayed indefinitely, denying Trump an expected acquittal.
The gambit has gained some traction inside the left wing of the House Democratic Caucus this week. ...
Remember when Republicans insisted that Democrats were doing them a favor by impeaching President Trump because it was only going to backfire?
On Wednesday, Trump tweeted: ...

It is becoming increasingly obvious that Trump actually feels very threatened by impeachment.
