Trump will be seriously pissed if these two start to settle their differences.
This could be part of the reason...
Sanctions, Sanctions, Sanctions.
With that, maybe a determined President Moon Jae-in and realistic Kim Jong-un recognize that there could be a better path forward than continuing to be the pawns of two super powers?
I am very impressed with the effort being made, very good coverage on Aljazeera as well.
The North and South have said the war is finally over. I hope they do sign the agreements.

From Stuff article
US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for a historic inter-Korean summit and insisted that the United States was "not going to be played" by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Trump said the US had narrowed down to two or three locations his planned meeting with Kim. The US president pushed back against critics who doubt the North Korea dictator is really willing to give up the nuclear weapons his nation took decades acquiring.
"I don't think he's ever had this enthusiasm for somebody, for them wanting to make a deal," Trump said in the Oval Office as he met German Chancellor Angela Merkel. "We're not going to be played, OK. We're going to hopefully make a deal. The United States in the past has been played like a fiddle."
"That's not happening to us. We will, I think, come up with a solution. And if we don't, we will leave the room," Trump said.
So he takes credit. China and SK are due the credit. Japan has given tentative support. Now that real talks are happening he then jumps in with disagreeing NK will remove its nuclear, and the US will be played, and he may leave the room. Best to stay quiet and positive. These statements reinforce that any agreement will be decided by NK, SK and China.
The good thing is he is continuing to alienate the US. As to whether NK plays ball or not, thats another story, but good on you US, continue to remove yourself from world affairs.
Fred99:
I get the feeling there's a problem coming up - NK (and with China's support) is going to want the US out of SK, and Moon has in the past been OK with that as part of moves toward reunification. China will oppose moves to unification if the US remain, the US will be extremely reluctant to be thrown out, and Trump's the last person who should be let loose in any negotiation where the US needs to show restraint and probably eat some humble pie.
Agree. I can see the US being pushed out. Peace in SEA is bigger than being friendly with the US. The first world isnt just the US, its Asia Pacific, South America, Canada, Europe and so on. Could the US use trade to exert pressure? Could do, if they want to cut their nose off to spite their face.
One would hope that due care is taken over any deals with NK, given their 100% record of reneging
Fred99: Oh FFS. NZH with an opinion piece in the paper suggesting Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize if theres a peace settlement.
I thought Murdoch only owned part of the NZH, should be no reason for a NZ paper to publish such utter crap on behalf of the Faux News Network.
Yeah "but Obama".
Whatabout if the Herald stops publishing whataboutism propaganda pieces.
Don't laugh...he will get one.

:-)
The US IMHO, after what Ive read and watched, is out of the equation. None of their business. And he knows that, having just said that he now wants to broker the deal.
He/USA is not involved. I'd not be surprised that his tweets to come give KJU an out not to have talks as he is unreasonable. Then the talk are between SK,NK, China, and with them trying to get some form of tentative approval from Japan.
US, exit stage left

Be prepared for a lot more of this over the coming days ............
"Because having demonised Trump as the fifth horseman of the apocalypse when he was elected nearly 18 months ago, things have actually turned out really rather well.
The Koreas are talking and, finally, a U.S. president is actually prepared to enforce ex-president Barack Obama’s red lines on chemical weapons in Syria (instead of merely talking about it).
Employment is up, and the U.S. economy, despite the odd wobble, is booming — which means ours is, too.
And regardless of the relentless and corrosive barrage of rudeness directed at him by our political classes, Mr Trump still seems genuinely fond of the UK, and keen to sort out a post-Brexit trade deal.
His predecessor, Mr Obama, we should recall, told us that we would be at the ‘back of the queue’ when it came to all that."
I suspect that Trump's support will lift again, as he is already taking a lot of credit for Korea. It was interesting watching Merkel's body language and grimacing at their press conference this morning.

Trump is corrupting most things why not finishing off the Nobel Prize.
