I'm a bit bored as there's nothing much to report at the moment. So, I thought that I'd have a browse of Amazon AU 4K titles.

Luckily there are a few titles that still have their Black Friday prices. Kino Lorber and Shout Factory are American Boutique Labels specializing in giving new life to older catalogue titles. They don't ship outside of the US, But Amazon US do stock several titles. A few of their titles were available on Amazon AU at temporarily reduced prices and shipping from the US. The downside for some collectors is that both Shout and Kino Blu-rays are locked to Region A. Personally, its not an issue for me; I haven't watched any of the Blu-rays that are bundled with my 4K discs.

When I sold off a lot of my Blu-ray titles, I later regretted selling some of my favourite movies and I'm pleased to say that I got three of them back from Amazon AU at Black Friday prices. I made sure that I spent over AU$59 to get free shipping, which was a saving of over AU$33. So, its not all doom and gloom for we Australasian collectors. Amazon is our friend and ordering enough to get free shipping from AU or US, makes importing a viable option.

Independence Day: 20th Anniversary Edition (1996) 20th Century Studios

The Magnificent Seven (1960) Shout Factory

Ronin (1998) Kino Lorber

Kino Lorber are releasing arguably Arnie's best comedy effort; Kindergarten Cop 4K Ultra HD on January 21st.

Hello All,

Thanks Movieman for this very interesting and informative forum thread!

I especially appreciate your information on future titles and the state of the 4k market e.g. Disney no longer distributing to Australasia. Thanks again and please keep it up!

We’ve recently acquired a 4k bluray player took advantage of the recent sales across JB NZ, JB AU and EzyDVD - buying 91 titles since Oct 5 (Godfather, Pirates of the Caribbean and Back to the Future sets each counted as 1).

Have also discovered the “Sorry, this item is unavailable..” restriction with JB AU - but thankfully I can ship to my brother in Beenleigh, GC Australia who will on-ship to me.

Still a lot of work to be done, in acquiring titles released in past years that are no longer easily available - at a reasonable price! Gosh don’t some sellers on Ebay/Amazon (etc.) love to charge astronomical prices - especially many steelbooks and lenticular (blah!) titles.

A final note - we really appreciated JB AU’s recent “2 for $40 4k Ultra HD” + 30% off deal = AU$14 + ship per-title. We acquired many dozens through this offer.

Thanks again and great thread!

B.Allen

Thanks pdovore . It’s very gratifying to read posts like yours and makes me feel like I’m not wasting my time keeping the thread updated. I am retired, so it gives me something to do with my time.

It’s great that you are building a 4K collection, you have more titles than I do now 😆 The JBAU 2 for AU$40 is on until January 28th.

Welcome to geekzone

Watched 4K The Ladykillers last night. Looks lovely. Some of the colours for the close ups...Can't beat 4Ks of actual film.

Was that the original or the Tom Hanks remake?

I haven't discussed future film releases in this thread before, but one upcoming release has piqued my interest as I'm a big fan of 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road.

The film that I am referring to is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. A spin off from the Mad Max franchise which is a prequel to "Fury Road". The film follows events leading to Furiosa working for Immortan Joe.

Starring one of my favourite actresses; Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth as a crazed warlord named Dementus, the film is ultra violent and may require an R16 or R18 classification, which could affect its success at the worldwide Box-Office.

Reported Budget: US$230 Million

Due for theatrical release in May 2024, we could be looking at a 4K Ultra HD release in the fourth quarter of next year.

I'm probably going to get fired for mentioning it (here), but there's a new 4K mastered boxset of Columbo out in a couple of weeks -
