So my Sony Bravia KDL-40CX520, purchased in October 2011 (about 3 years and 5 months ago), has developed a fault. The bottom half of the screen has a greeny / bluey tint to it, with a well defined line between the part of the screen that works and the part with the tint. This happens on all inputs, not just live TV. I even get it on the start-up screen where it's bright blue against a black background. So I'm assuming it's a fault with the panel.
The TV was purchased through Dick Smith.
I believe the Sony warranty for this TV is just 1 year.
I know that the CGA says that goods must last for a reasonable amount of time, and that Consumer produced a report that says that TV's can reasonably be expected to last for 12+ years, see https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/4-year-old-tv-stops-working (although I'd have been happy with 5 years).
Has anyone had any luck getting Sony to repair / replace a TV that is nearly 2 and a half years out of warranty? Does Sony had a reputation for playing hard-ball over warranties or are they a company that takes their responsibilities under the CGA seriously?
Any advice?
