Hi all,

I have a new HTPC build running MediaPortal RC2 with Vista SP1 32bit and a Hauppauge Nova-500-T tuner. All software and drivers are installed and working well, apart from one issue which I'm trying to fix. I'd like to be able launch MediaPortal by using just the remote control. At the moment, if MediaPortal is closed and I press the home button on the remote, the Hauppauge IR window comes up asking me if I'd like to launch WinTV. Is there a way to configure this so that MediaPortal launches instead?

Hi All

I can't seem to get my Happauge (MCE apparently) remote (colour : Black) to work with Media Portal (MediaPortal) 1.0.0.0.

I have :
installed it drivers etc
within MP :
set the correct remote in Tv Server config.
in the IrTrans Config (in MP) turn it on to use a hauppauge instead of mediacenter. This meant copying the happauge file that comes with MP and calling irTrans happauge.xml.

My 4 directional arrows buttons work when navigating around MP. However, when I playing back movies the usually rewind, forward, play, pause, skip button do not operate at all.

In addition, the coloured buttons do nothing as well as the four buttons which is tv, radio, full scrreen etc (on mine) they are situated under the number key 1 to 0.

I have a nova-t-500 dual tuner digital.

Could someone please assist if possible?

Although I use a different hauppauge tuner card, I did not need to copy and rename any files. As long as irremote was installed during the hauppauge setup, all I had to do was check the 'use hauppauge remote' box on the MP config - remote - hauppauge tab. I didn't do anything on the IRTrans page but maybe the Nova is a bit different....

Thanks for your reply but I have done that. The buttons that do work are:
power off
directional arrows
okay
Clear - which takes you back to the previous menu - don't like this
Numberical key pad 1-0

The rest don't do anything?

So are you saying that i have to install the Hauppauge dirvers after or before install MP?

I installed the hauppauge IR program before MP. Idon't know if it makes any difference. However I have also modified the irremote.ini file so that I can start MP from the desktop. All the buttons on my Hauppauge remote (43 button) that came with my HVR-3000 work in MP. The remote sensor plugs into the tuner card.
I'm not quite sure why the change you made in IRtrans was necessary and I was under the impression that the IR programs in TV-Server were only for blasting. What happens if you deselect IRTrans in MP Config?

Okay if its USB then maybe it is a clone of an MCE remote . I'm not sure if it will have Hauppauge codes or MCE ones. In which case what happens if you tick 'use mce remote' in MP config? (untick the hauppauge setting) Don't be surprised if Windows Media Center starts up in the background. Sorry I just made the assumption you had MCE or VMC. If not then extra bits will be required to make your remote work....

Blasting is signalling a set top box, or other AV component from your HTPC using IR. Useful for recording Sky.

I have tried ticking the MCE box on the MCE tab however, I don't think it had much effect. However, I shall go home tonight and try it out again and take more notive this time. :)

Can you tell me what the following is for I'm a bit confused:

Irremote.ini
IrTrans - in MP Config - Is this a service? This also has a mapping?
MCE/Hauppauge Tabs - This also has a mapping? why both?

Did you manage to get MediaPortal to launch using your Haupauge remote ?

You should be able to find the irremote.ini file in C:\windows.

I have changed my irremote.ini file as described here: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-1-talk-45/calling-all-mp-new-zealanders-both-you-2321/index116.html#post248953

But when I try to launch mediaplayer using the Green Power button I get a message saying Application not Found.

I have also tried amending the string to GO={run(mediaportal.exe)} but got the same result

I am wondering if this has anything to do with being unable to place spaces in the string naming.

I am happy otherwise as all other functioins of the remote work well when using MediaPortal......JUST CAN'T LAUNCH

Any assistance/ guidance would be appreciated.

As well as what you have done above, I have done the following:

In MediaPortal Config set (in General settings) Start MediaPortal with windows... (you can deselect it later).
Once mediaportal has started on windows boot-up you can go into MP Config and deselect the above.
The first time you start MP after that must be done manually (keyboard hotkey or shortcut).
From then on the remote 'GO' button starts MP.

This works for me as my HTPC hibernates most of the time and I only restart a couple of times a week. I can't explain why the above works except to say "welcome to the wonderful world of windows".

Hi and thanks for your help.

I tried what you said but still get the same message.

Here is what I did:

1. Set MP to start with windows by selecting box in General Settings
2. Re-booted PC and confirmed that MP did start automatically
3. Closed MP
4. De-selected option in General Settings to start with windows
5. Opened MP by clicking on shortcut
6. Closed MP
8. Attempted to launch MP with the Hauppauge Remote Green Power Button.

And I get the same message Application Not Found ?

Any more ideas ?

Just confirming the GO={run(MediaPortal.exe)} command in the default section of irremote.ini refers to the GO button on the remote (also known as home or a picture of a house). You may need to set the command starting with GRN or something similar to get it to work with the green button.

I'm sorry I can't be more exact but the HTPC is in use and I will get growled at if I shut it down to have a look.

I definitely get the same application not found message if I try and start MP with the remote after just booting up.

What happens if you leave 'start mediaportal with windows' checked. Boot up. MP starts. Shut down MP. and then try the remote?

I'm sorry I can't be more precise, but I stumbled across a way to make it work without really understanding why.

Edit: You need to reboot after you have edited the irremote.ini file. And have you got UAC turned on or off? Mine is turned off.

Awesome thanks for all your help Dingbatt, you are indeed a Master Geek.

MediaPortal is now launching using the GO Key.

My next mission (off this topic) is to try to get Hardware Acceleration working with my onboard ATI HD 3200, but I have read that it may be better for me to put in a PCI-E Card such as an NVIDIA GX Series card...... off to read the forums on this.

I've attempted to remove my all my remote control preferences. My remote doesn't seem to have a brand on it or anything but it does have a Windows button hoewver that doesn't activate anything anyway.

The clear button seems to take me back out of the current screen to the previous screen and the enter button selects items.

But it is really strange, I think it was MP .02..... where the remote totally worked and I wanted to install MP 0.2.... but thought it might stuff up my current MP1.0 setttings etc

So this showed me it could work and i have installed the drivers for hauppauge on MP1.0 with no change.

THe forward, rewind, play, stop, back, skip back/forw don't work.

I wonder if some one has a hauppauge irremote.ini file working I wounder if I should try that?
Or can I install MP.02..... on the same machine as I have MP1.0 .... any experience anyone?
