Hi there,

I bought a 32" LG (32lk330) from power store 3 weeks ago and since then i faced a problem when people in TV moving fast.

Their faces look pretty strange in term of colors and shape. It looks like the previous frame still on the screen and overlapping with the new one. It seems like a shadow or something. I guess it's not just a motion blur, isn't it?

And also, as i recently moved into this new place and NZ, i didn't see any UHF antenna, i saw a satellite dish though, but i can plug into UHF socket and watch TV without any set top box. Is it has anything to do with my problem?

So what can i do to resolve this problem? Should i return this TV and find a new one? Power store offered me to swap this LG with Samsung LA32d450. Should i accept it?

Thanks,

Is this generally occurring on people's faces, i.e. skin tones?
If so, it sounds like it could be some form of noise reduction. I've seen it on a few TVs with the noise reduction turned on.
It kinda looks like the middle of their cheek is hovering on its own, whilst the rest of their face moves normally within the frame.

Is there a picture noise reduction setting you can turn off?

I wouldn't bother swapping for the Samsung, as I own that model and the problems you mentioned you were having with your LG sound like the exact same issues I have with my Samsung.

Not so bad when playing MP4's via USB though I've noticed. Haven't tried anything else, but this makes me wonder if it's a fault in the internal decoders.

What signal level are you receiving?

Your TV will not work with a satellite dish without a STB, it will only work natively with Terrestrial broadcasts.

The symptoms you describe sound very much like analogue ghosting,

Do the shadows appear when you are playing content from a direct source ( DVD/BluRay/USB stick)
if yes, then its the TV

If No, Then it is either in the tuner or the aerial

Does the situation change when you connect or disconnect the TV  from the aerial socket.

Where are you living, (Do you get digital HD and Analogue or just one or the other) Do you get a good signal, what signal strength does the TV indicate,

+1

It sounds like you are tuning and watching an analogue signal and not digital.
If you have plugged into a satellite dish outlet it's a wonder you can see any picture at all.
You need to have a UHF antenna for Digital Terrestrial.

BTW, I would exchange it anyway as it's only an HD Ready model (1366 x 768) and it's also CCFL backlit not LED so it's rather behind current technology.

Many thanks for all replies.

I live in Upper Riccarton, next to church corner, so i guess i should get a very good signal, right?
And yes, i can receive both digital and analogue channel.

I will try everything your guy suggested as soon as i am back home. Anyway, how can i check my signal strength?

Moreover, i can't see any UHF antenna on my roof(might be very small?), there are two cables come from my roof one from satellite dish but don't know where another one comes from, will try again though.

Cheers,

Can I ask what picture settings you're using?
Have you used LG's Picture Wizard calibration type thingee?
Does it appear when watching BluRay's / Video games?

Turning everything off does help some but not 100%.

When i play movie via usb stick, the problem seems to disappear. Didn't try BluRay/DVD/Game though.

Anyway, i try to find the UHF antenna but somehow i can't. I followed the UHF cable from the wall to my roof and it went under the roof-tile to somewhere i don't know. Maybe my antenna is too small?????

I did try picture wizard once but don't know how to make my picture looks good so not anymore. And cinema mode give me the less problem.

Should i buy STB and watch from satellite dish instead?

Should i return and find a better one? or this problem is from my side not TV?

Thanks,

Hobchild

You are definitely experiencing the same problems I am with my Samsung. It's almost uncanny that we don't have the same TV. I tried changing all the settings around too, nothing worked. I'm sorry I can't be more help. I have a UHF aerial though I'm not 100% sure it's connected to the bedroom jack.

I have personally never come across a UHF antenna in the roof space, but maybe that could be where it is?

It is quite common to install V/UHF antennas in a roof space of concrete or clay tile roofs.

I would doubt it would be the reception, as with digital you have either got a signal, or you don't. There is very little middle ground. If you do have signal problems it would show as blocks over teh image, and weird coloured blocks. The only real way to test it is with another TV, or take you TV to someone elses house to test.
