Only just been able to see the Indian site - OMG that is pretty blatant.  Funny though!

Bung: If they want to stay unique they'd better talk sternly to Spark Telecom in Lucknow India who seem to be using the same Logo.

From their website:
"Spark Telecom is a was incorporated in the year Nov.2013. The company was formed with a view to provide technology support to the small and medium enterprises.
We also offer the Trainning (sic) and Placement Service, Outsource manpower management and Summer Internship Program in Telecom domain ."

steve98:
How can you make this comment about a service that so far we only know the name of? You should be glad, we desperately need competition in this space, Telecom are as well positioned to make as good a go at this as any other company in NZ.

Telecom's new TV service isn't really going to be competition for anything. Most normal people barely understand Freeview and Sky TV, let alone watching TV via the Internet. The customer numbers for Telecom's effort will be very low ... and if it is anything like "normal" TV, they'll pull the plug just as people get interested. ;-)

It will only work if it is built into devices, like TVs, and the tv has a big button on it to enable easy access. But according to media releases nothing like that is planned yet. So currently their market is those gen x/ gen y people who are used to watching tv on their computer/tablet, or hooking it up to the tv. But many of those already use services like netflix. Personally I think they should combine forces with quicklflix, who are already on many devices, they lack content though.

I too hope that Telespark can learn from their past ventures with TiVo etc and make this one work. At least this time they're going it alone, so no partners to tie their hands.
OTOH, I most likely won't be rushing in to sign up until I see the value in it for me, and until the price drops down from whatever sillliness it starts at (unless they've learned that lesson from TiVo too).

On the topic of pay-tv, I'd love to see a return of Spark/Telecom reselling SkyTV over the fibre and bundle it with a 'premium' video on demand service that is unique to Spark/Telecom.

I for one don't want to see them any where near reselling Sky TV..   That just keeps giving Sky the monopoly..

I haven't had time to fully rea it yet, but from a quick skim of the article in today's Weekend Herald it looks like I was wrong. This name change isn't a silly idea by some middle management moron trying to come up with something "useful" to justify their pay packet, but is the good ol' "New CEO trying to prove he's worth it and make his mark" idiocy instead. :-\

The problem is that if each vendor goes off and tries to negotiate then the cost is going to be carried by three separate organisations - wouldn't the best idea be to come up with a consortium that Sky, Telecom and Vodafone all jointly own and each chip in money to negotiate for the base set of channels thus have the sort of bargaining power that'll push down prices?

Either I'm blind or they've changed it. Does anyone have a screenshot?

Behodar: Either I'm blind or they've changed it.

It's been changed on the main page.

However, I can still see a tiny thumbnail of the "original" (Spark-like) logo in my Firefox browser on the URL bar when the page loads - presumably, the "favicon.ico" file on that site hasn't been altered yet.
