Not to be a negative nancy but this quote from their site:

Soon you'll be able to get your fix of over 5,000 hours of TV shows and movies online and on demand across all genres.

Doesn't fill me with excitement. That's not a lot of content I would have thought.... but then it depends what the content actually is. I guess we could rule out entire seasons of tv shows maybe?

5000 hours is heaps.
Last I read, netflix us has around 10,000 hours, although if you actually look through the full catalogue (not just the stuff the app recommends) you will see heaps and heaps of awful things - crocosaurus, mega shark etc that fills out the catalogue.

Netflix uk launched with around 3000 hours I believe.

Of course, volume isn't everything, quality matters. 5000 hours of good stuff is awesome. 5000 hours of crap.... Not so much.

Does it really matter what they call themselves? its the substance that count, I wouldn't mind if they renamed to Bouncing Bananas it is what products and services they can provide that matters.

Are you sure you are not getting Hours mixed up with Titles?
I though Netflix had 10000 Titles, which would be a LOT more than 10000 hours.

Are you sure you are not getting Hours mixed up with Titles?
I though Netflix had 10000 Titles, which would be a LOT more than 10000 hours.

A movie might average 2 hours, but TV shows are often 30-40 minutes. A lot of kids stuff is 20 minutes per episode. Netflix has loads of TV, and loads and loads of kids stuff

wouldn't be surprised if the average length per title is about 1hr.

Well if Telecom are off to completely change the branding, perhaps they can relinquish their hold on the Telecom NZ name.

Yes but you get a fair amount of brand loyalty with a name . Change the name and it goes.. Seen it happen plenty of time before..

You mean like when ANZ bought out National Bank then rebranded all the National Bank's to ANZ? ever thought that maybe situations like that have more to do with ANZ being voted the worst bank in Australia/NZ than anything to do with the rebrand themselves? that moving away from the business just so happened to coincide with the change but not caused by it?

I just got the email saying about changing to Spark.

I had to laugh, I went looking at the no-contracts stuff, and all it linked to was mobile phone plans lmao... still same old Telecom so far. I was expecting wired no-contracts like some other ISP's.

Remind me, what was pre-paid mobile plans all about? It's just a new - old so far with more allowance. But that always happens over time doesn't matter the name.

I know... it's early days. But first impressions really count. So far, nothing non-Telecom about it.

Just my 2cents.
