I was wondering...

Is it the more people using capped plans, the more shaped BigTime is...Or the more people on BigTime the more shaped the traffic gets.

Does more people on BigTime mean less prioritization and better over-all speed or the more using BigTime over capped plans, the more shaped everyones traffic gets?

DravidDavid: I asked for a list of ports not shaped. The representative said: "Let me speak to my supervisor...". He came back and said he was told ports 0 to 600 were not shaped and that FTP/VPN traffic was not effected.

The shaping does not work at a port level. So that statement is completely incorrect. Telecom uses Deep Packet Inspection to determine the traffic type. I.e. they look beyond the layer 3 and 4 headers.

FTP and VPN traffic are shaped.

Well back to the adventure plan and it's like night and day.... pingtest no longer has a warning about gaming issues.

Fantastic... 20GB.. no so fantastic. :)

Anyone else experiencing packet loss to overseas on big time?

Both myself and friend are experiencing packet loss to international sites.

Doing a 100 pings i get a average of 20% loss.

This does not happen to any sites within NZ.

Yes,

I timed out on pingtest.net 3 times because of 100% packet loss to Sydney, Washington and Prague.

It is impossible for me to stream any video from yahoo.co.nz still, which I find surprising since that is a Telecom's site is it not? it has Telecom written all over it. YouTube is fine though. Refreshing the browser just before watching the video works like a charm! :D

I thought Xtra.co.nz was now Yahoo.co.nz. I assume that it is hosted in New Zealand since it has Telecom written all over it and the site still ends in .co.nz.

So far i have tried Games.on.net (AU Site), google.co.nz, my LA VPS and my Texas VPS.

I have also tested it backwards from my LA VPS to telecom.co.nz (yes i know this probibly isnt a router) and to my place.

Telecom.co.nz went through fine without loss but going to my place did not.

The above seems to be the start of the problem for me, all other routers before ping fine without packet loss, starting here i experience loss.

Bigtime is terrible this evening. I'm getting packet loss as per the above posts.

Gmail takes about 3minutes to load, and then says "something is borked with your internet".

Getting dropped from game servers etc etc

Ughhh..

I have a major issue with the Global Gateway aswell. Take a look at the tests I did on the other page. It never seems to be able to ping the global gateway and when it does the latency is in the high thousands.

I think this is were my ping/packet loss issue is occuring.
