ArranH: But my access to my newsgroup provider has died, gone from 2MBps to <1KBps. In the past there has been some throttling between 9am and 2am which is fine, but for the past few days in been constant. Telecom say they haven't changed anything and they aren't throttling it.

Mine's always been <5kBps with numerous timeouts and disconnects.

Yes, I have been having trouble getting good speeds to newsservers over the last couple of days as well. Traditionally I have been able to get 2mb down using SSL, but now I'm getting around 512k-1mb and it's all over the place. Using standard (non-ssl) it seems to be hitting about 10k/s, which is pretty bs.

They've definitely changed *something*. Citrix connections for me aren't as good as they used to be, either.

Can I please ask a question of the experts?

When I joined Telecom and connected to Big Time I asked for Interleaving to be turned off. On my standard Thomson Router where do I find it's status? Also I am ADSL2+ about 800M from the exchange(not cabinet). Do my settings look about right?

Does anyone know if Telecom is open to working new games into the shaping so they actually work? I can't login to Bad Company 2, and my packet loss is approaching 20% if ping it, couple of the hops have ever higher packet loss.

TVNZ On-demand is back to normal now. By normal I mean...well, crap.

Telecom actively works on creating rules to identify traffic in order to improve the plan. At least that is what I have picked up from this thread so far.

It can only get better! :)

I think it will get changed for the next month, so you will still have big time until your month finishes

Those modem stats look fine for a ADSL2+ connection, sync rate is a little low for being 800m from exchange. In terms of your interleaving non of that info mentions interleaving so it will be in a different place, i don't have a thompson so i cant tell you exactly where it is sorry.

According to the telecom site the change happens within 24 hours.
From http://www.telecom.co.nz/broadband/changeplan
"There is no cost to change your Telecom Broadband plan, and the change will be effective within 24 hours."

The packet loss to the BC2 'cluster' after 1034 packets is at 23%

I've been told that tcom doesn't shape anything nationally, I am having huge huge trouble navigating a HTTPS site that is on a friends bigtime connection that used to be very very fast when I was on xnet

On my standard Thomson Router where do I find it's status?

On the left, choose Broadband Connection, then on the right, under DSL Connection, choose "View More" If the type is G.992.5 then you are ADSL2+. If it shows gdmt you are ADSL1. You will also see the connect rate on that screen.

We run a pro rata system, you will only get billed for the plan you are on, for the days you were/are on it. If the month in advance on the old plan has already billed that will get adjusted on the following bill

Thanks for that, can the changes occur during the weekend as well? I have a few downloads finishing tonight and then want to shift to Pro for some gaming over the weekend.

My cut/paste showed that I was G.992.5 so therefore am ADSL2+ like I said.

But what within the Tompson router tells me that interleving is actually turned off?

I don't think the Thomson's stats page shows whether the connection is interleaved or not.

You can fairly easily tell if interleaving is off by looking at a tracert to www.telecom.co.nz, the first hop after your modem should be <30ms.

I just tried moving to SSL, using 5 connections to each of Astrawebs servers, and getting

[22:10:54] Level: ERROR MODULE=InterSocket, MSG=Error: Connection Failed, Host: news.astraweb.com Error Code: 10061:1089

Trying port 443 and 563 but no luck, not getting anything through at all.

EDIT --------------------

Oops, didn't realise SSL was a different server address. I'm now getting about 40-50kBps, about, much less than the usual 2MB, but at least its better than the 0kB I was getting.

But they have definitely changed something. I'll check it tomorrow before 9am, and if its still slow I'll start making daily complaints.
