After ten days of having awesome vdls I had my first drop out. My connection had been sitting at 40/10 and no issues. Now my connection downgrades to 25/10. Here is a log of my net overnight. Check out the errors
It had very little use. This is on xtra and right now only my iphone is using the net.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Try restarting your modem and looking at the sync rates again.

I'd give the helpdesk a call and see what they can do.
They probably know the Dynamic Line Management better than I do. I've no idea if this is just the DLM going conservative, or whether a fault or change in line condition has occurred.

When your attenuation has jumped from 10 to 16 a massive decrease in speed is to be expected.

You might need someone to do some investigation into your wiring - there will be a reason it's jumped.

Wiring is 10 days old. New line from outside house.

A jump to 16dB attenuation is going to do that.

This is also indicative of a physical problem - a lot of errors for 7 hours:

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 14,822 / 1,023,775

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 26 / 26,326

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,287,299

Some sort of physical issue. Probably cable/wiring related

Update. Getting regular drop outs now. Help desk has put a 24 monitoring on my connection. I had a drop out while on the phone and they could see my connection go from 27 to 24 down although at their end there are no drop outs showing up which is strange.

Few erros for a connection of just 3 mins

If you want to see CRC errors look at this

Link InformationUptime:    0 days, 0:06:06
FEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 918,362
CRC Errors (Up/Down):    1 / 2,163
HEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 15,051

Link InformationUptime:    0 days, 0:07:58
FEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 1,123,983
CRC Errors (Up/Down):    1 / 2,818
HEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 18,459

Link InformationUptime:    0 days, 0:10:40
FEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 1,427,025
CRC Errors (Up/Down):    1 / 3,756
HEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 24,239

Link InformationUptime:    0 days, 0:18:24
FEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 3,814,806
CRC Errors (Up/Down):    1 / 13,283
HEC Errors (Up/Down):    0 / 81,759

So this is from 6 minutes into restarting the modem until 12 minutes later with a couple of speedtests and regular browsing. The CRC errors at 2,163, then 2,818, 3,776 and then 13,283 (down) seem♠ very high and might explain the lousy transfer rates I get (which range form 8Mbs to 18Mbs) on a link which is supposed to have up to 30Mbs according to Chorus.

The very low CRC errors up would also explain why my uploads in the Speedtest always get 8-9Mbs no matter how lousy the downloads are.

Must get on the phone to Telecom to complain when I have the time.  This seems very unsatisfactory for VDSL connection that has only been on for 3 weeks.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

before you get too worried about the errors, might wanna be looking into how your attention jumped so high.. you could say whatever change was made influenced the increase in errors
