Hi folks,

We just got upgraded to Ultra VDSL and got one of these units. I have no problems with other devices, including torrent, using UPnP to open ports as necessary. The only problem I am having at the moment is trying to set up port forwarding to my IP Cam, a Foscam unit.

My Foscam is set to have a static IP of 192.168.1.80. I am trying to forward incoming requests on port 88 to port 80 on the camera. However, according to my router there are two devices using 192.168.1.80, on ethport1 and wlan each!

Device name                             IP address           Interface
Unknown-00-12-7b-51-c0-76      192.168.1.80        WLAN
Unknown-00-0d-c5-d0-dc-8c       192.168.1.80        ethport1

The one on WLAN is our camera, but I have no idea what the other one is. I have scanned our LAN repeatedly but no such device was found. In the section where I get to configure the port forwarding (assign a game or app to a local network device) I simply cannot select the second device in the list above. Every time I do it simply switches to the other mystery one! Yes, that's right - it's a dropdown box! When I select the ...c0-76 device in the list the page posts back to the server, and automagically changes its selection to the mysterious ...dc-8c device! It had an option of putting in an IP address too. When I put in 192.168.1.80 it did the automagical switch again! I have no idea why, or if this is indeed why I cannot connect to my camera from external networks. Has anyone had any such issues?

Previous to this I had a simple TP-Link device, before that a couple of LinkSys devices. All of them had incredibly straightforward way of configuring port forwarding, etc. What's with the Technicolor unit? Is this the way of the future?? Most things in there feel somewhat dumbed down.

I have started tearing my hair out already, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated... before I lose too much more hair...

Cheers,
D.

EDIT:
I just figured out the ethport1 connection was somehow cached from when I connected the camera via cable. I restarted the router and now the port is being forwarded to the right interface. Unfortunately I still can't access the camera from external connection. The error now says connection was refused!

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?
