I saw this post on this website and this problem was the same problem I have.
But this problem wasn't solved, because it was in a other topic. So I want to give it a new try.
I adjusted this post a little bit. Sorry for my language. I'm dutch :)

My internet keeps dropping off! There is no phone plugged in the same plug, its not the wifi, because my PC is connected with a cable to the router, but it's the internet connection who's dropping off!

When it drops off the router shows an error message in the browser saying it have lost connection and to check that everything is connected properly.

I have tried replacing the filter but the same problem! I even resetted the router to it's defaults and installed it again, but it keeps dropping.

Sometimes I'm in a game and I get disconnection every 20 seconds. Then I can play 20 seconds again and it will disconnect for 20 seconds.

So I have to restart the router and it works again! until it drops off again. Its really really annoying!

Can anyone help?

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Check the wiring in your house and get a master filter installed. If you message me your home phone number I can run a line test but I am sure that it is your internal wiring causing the issue.

Looks like the OP is in the Netherlands, not on Telecom NZ.

Poor internal wiring isn't unique to NZ... in fact after living in the land of cheese for 5 years I would guess their wiring was as bas as ours. Especially in apartment's built circa 1800's.... cable internet over there was superior since the cable network had been put in more recently than kpn telecom.

I don't doubt that for one minute - I just wondered if you had the contacts to run a line test over there for the OP

IME Thompson router = rubbish. Go and buy a new one. I replaced my TG585 a while ago with a linksys and all the problems including disconnection issues instantly disappeared.

Well I'm going try this solution, cause it's getting very hot sometimes.
But I doubt this will be the reason ;)

I also recommend getting a new modem. These thomsons are not the best.

You can pickup cheap xDSL modems from trademe but research quality first.
