Hello, I upgraded to VDSL from ADSL2+ and a technician and his learning on the job apprentice from Chorus came today to install it.
The technician himself was excellent, he explained everything he was doing/going to do in a manner which was easy to understand. He ended up running a new cable from the ceiling of the property down to a new phone jack.

However, after the end of the installation he said the line was getting speeds of ~40mbps down and 10 up. When I did a quick test on speedtest.net the speeds were 22 down and <1 up, compared to the previous ADSL speeds of 8 down, <1 up.

I'm not trying to be picky and I appreciate the increased down speeds but the customer service people and online advertising states upload speeds should be between 5 to 15 mbps.

Here are some of the line stats, I'm using the Telecom supplied Huawei HG630b.

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Your physical connection is on VDSL2 already, but I think Telecom still have you on the ADSL2+ profile.

Call Telecom and ask them to confirm they or Chorus has moved you to the VDSL2 profile. Once they have confirm you are on the VDSL2 profile, give it a few hours to kick in.

If speed did not improve after a few hours, you might need to hard reset / factory reset your VDSL2 router. I was stuck on the ADSL2+ profile for more than 36 hours until I hard reset my router.

Okay, I'll do a hard reset and wait until tomorrow. If it doesn't improve I'll give them a call.
