I upgraded a while ago and have been pretty happy so far.  However, in the last week, connectivity has gone down every couple days.  Power cycling the modem immediately fixes the problem.

I checked telecom's status page and I don't see anything about outages in AKL area.

How often do you have to try turning your VDSL modem off and back on again?

Never.

What is your wiring like and do you have a master filter installed? What type of modem do you have?

my last sync was sitting at over 30 days uptime, only resynced to count out CPE for an issue.

your line may be resyncing for DLM making movements, but otherwise it shouldnt. with DLM working on a VDSL line, the idea is to leave it connected 24/7 for DLM to work its magic the best it can.

i havent seen many posts of telecoms modems locking up, so maybe you have a dud modem?

What exactly do you mean by it going down?

Modem locks up and doesn't respond?
PPP drops?
DSL sync drops?

mine been up for 45 days now and previous to that was about 70, only reason it went down is because i went from 8b to 17a.

Cheers for replies

Telecom supplied TG589vn v2.

By going down i mean the 'internet light' on modem goes red and nothing gets through. It's happened to me twice today. Made me wonder if it had anything to do with wind and rain that we had. I haven't tried to login to modem admin page when it happens.

I haven't looked at wiring under house, but Chorus tech came out to install splitter. He seemed really careful/professional doing things upstairs.

Sounds like I'll need to start keeping a log of how often it happens and try and take stats to convince them to send a tech out then? I'm glad to hear that it's not the norm!

No problems here; the layout where I live is that I have one of those grey Chorus mushroom's next to the house out in the backyard and the cable goes straight from that to the white patch box which is fed straight to the filter and then my modem is connected straight to that. No problems since the installation - I'm using a Huawei hg630b:

Are you doing anything specific such as torrenting when this occurs?

Your modem should never reboot, and only require intervention if you loose power.

It may indicate there could be a problem with your line, or perhaps the modem.

No torrents. The last few times it's gone down I have been using DNS proxy on AppleTV.

As it turns out, I have two of these modems. [I called up Telecom to send me pre-paid courier bag so that I could return the extra modem but it never arrived] Should I try swapping the modem out? Or is the TG589vn v2 considered a lemon?

Thanks again for your replies.
