Well somethings improved, Sparky & the Sparquettes are on the case in record time and only 1.5 hours after this was a major issue, I note an alert appeared. The cynic in me normally reckons half the country will have to be out for any hint of an admission.

i find the same thing

when i call up with an issue and they tell me its known and affecting xyz people i ask why they dont update their status page so people dont call up with the same fault

but they obviously like talking to people with known issues or making them wait on hold

I think it's a DNS issue. Been driving me nuts trying to do a website deployment. Up and down for couple of hours but I just changed my DNS server rather than let the router resolve which is forwarding to spark and all seems fine. A bit of a worry when something as fundamental as DNS can go down for such a long time (If that is what it is).

"Some" sites not loading...I can't even get Spark's page :( hard to tell if it's the connection or my router. Might be time to give up for the night.

For a quick temporary fix, go to the TCP properties of your network adaptor and manually assign a DNS server (8.8.8.8). This is a Google DNS server. Since doing that everything is working fine for me.

for a more permanent (and useful!) fix, check out dns4me who are doing a free beta trial, and say they'll only be around AU$3-5 when they do launch...

Added bonus is configurable geo-unblocking where you can set a country for each site you want too (e.g Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer etc.)

No good for me...I still can't get to Linkedin (for example). Or Facebook. Changing to Google's DNS isn't working. Sigh...

Edit: okay, after restarting the router it may have made a difference, there must be a better solution than using Google's DNS servers tho?

Hmmm I thought I knew how but turns out I was mistaken. How do i get to the tcp settings? I have a Thompson modem from telecom.

Ok so I managed to get into the device settings by browsing to dlsdevice.lan and I can see the tcp/ip settings but there doesn't seem to be a way to edit the primary or secondary DNS.

I've got the same problem and will work around by setting up a different box as DHCP server and disable DHCP server in the Thomson (can do by CLI) but I would hope there is a way to force the Thomson to change DNS while retaining the IP address.  You should be able to telnet to it with user = Administrator and password = <blank>.  If you type "menu" you will get a text based menu.  (Note I upgraded mine to v8 but used to work on my Telecom supplied v7).

Maybe there is someone out there who understands how to separate out the DHCP based DNS entries.  This problem has gone on rather long.
