Been on fiber a couple weeks now, yay finally!

Tonight's not so good though, constant buffering on Twitch at anything above 240p and YouTube maxes out at 360p before I hit endless buffering hell. Amusing gifs of cats also don't load without a few buffering breaks.

Local speed test maxes out the connection as expected.

Some random speedtests since I don't know what I'm doing.

Speedtest App:
Spark Wellington
101Mbps down
20Mbps up

Telstra Brisbane
2.79Mbps down
20Mbps up

Speedtest.net Los Angeles
0.97Mbps down
20Mbps

Google's own speed test, Wellington server
0.36Mbps down
15.6Mbps up

- Telstra Brisbane @ 99.9Mbps down, 20 Mbps up

- Telstra Chatswood @ 104 Mbps down, 22.3 Mbps up

I noticed that since we moved to fiber there's no longer my address showing on the landing page of the Bigpipe app, and above where the start diagnosis button is it says "connection not active" so somehow it's not fully recognising me as their customer right now either.

There was a Chorus fibre cut today, so this may be affecting some transit links. I think repair is still underway.

Yes, it's definitely related to that Chorus Fibre cut. Whoever had the backhoe couldn't have chosen a much worse place to do it. Most recent update I have is that a jointing crew is onsite. No ETR.

Edit - I see an ETR on that screenshot... That's info I haven't seen.

Cheers - N

arnies: On Monday it sounds like they did an upgrade.
During this they changed their DNS servers according to their support email, which I find appalling that they didn't let people know.

Speed issues tonight too. Hopefully this Spark transition doesn't ruin Bigpipe or I'll be switching providers pretty quickly.

The upgrade (transition to Spark network) and this issue are 100%, completely unrelated. This is due to a bad Chorus Fibre cut that has taken out multiple transit links.

Cheers - N

Ugh... Sorry guys. Update that the cable won't be fixed this evening. The conditions are too dangerous this evening to attempt a repair. Cables have been damaged by an overflowing river and trees down at roadside.

Next update will be after inspection as soon as there's some daylight and civil support staff.

Cheers - N

[edit: removed a statement about when the congestion might ease - this has taken out multiple links so my back of the envelope calculation might not be correct]

On the plus side, the congestion is likely to go away shortly so there shouldn't be much noticable issue shortly.

Thanks for the updates :) much appreciated

Out of interest - how do things look now. I have just seen some links stop running hot and a test I have run indicates latency is back to normal and no packet loss on something I was monitoring.
