hello,
im highy considering buying a sanyo 7400, but before i do i want to know a few things from people that have one :-)

-does it have good receiption? i have a tx115c and it has crap receiption, even my nokia i had before that could handle the reception better.

-how loud is the ringer? im in need of a loud phone when someone is ringing me and i need to be able to actually hear it.

ahh yeah, thats about it. loong forward to your comments/suggestions on this phone.

Coverage is better than TX115C but not quite as good as a Sanyo 8200. Ringtones are loud - I never miss a call.

trust me do not buy this phone. MANY people have had the issue of the rubber coming off around the top.

It is a huge hassle trying to get this fixed under warranty, I have been told it will take at least 3 weeks to fix and probably won't be covered by warranty !!
It is nice as to use (keypad) and has a sexy display unlike all other telecom phones, and has ok reception, but I would recommend the model up, the sanyo 5600, as it has no rubber parts.....

I'd wager that many more have not experienced this.

From Monday, all Sanyos will go to Telegistics, who are a repair company wholly owned by Telecom, not to MFR. This will hopefully reduce the turnaround time. Check with your dealer when you go in, that it is going to Telegistics and not MFR.

It is nice as to use (keypad) and has a sexy display unlike all other telecom phones, and has ok reception, but I would recommend the model up, the sanyo 5600, as it has no rubber parts.....

The 8200 has a nice display, as do a few others. The rubber edging has helped keep my 7400 look unscathed after numerous drops.

I understand that there is growing frustration where MFR are concerned and it's good to know that there is now an alternative, but I'm curious to know why only the Sanyos are being referred to Telegistics at this stage? Will Telegistics be able to deal with other models in due course?

Telegistics is new, and potentially the whole thing could just collapse if it started doing everything at once. I think they plan to be doing ALL telecom handsets by years end (or Oct even if i recall correctly).

lol - no, because they have decided MFR is cr@p (finally).

What matters is that it IS happening to people.

Show me a consumer electronics product that gets even 1/2 as much use as a cellphone, that has a zero faliure rate. Faliures are a fact of life. Sanyos seem to have a smaller faliure rate than say, Samsung, in my experience.

Yes and yes. My phone is 9 or 10 months old now actually, and has taken a severe beating, lots of drops and liquid damage. About 3 or 4 mm of the rubber casing is coming away on mine (started about 2 weeks ago).

Lets hope Telegistics are nicer to deal with and more helpful than MFR

A few things that you should know about mobile phone servicing.
1. MfR does not get to decide what is covered by warranty and in this case it would be Sanyo dictating what they are allowed to repair under warranty.
2. Do not expect service to get better under Telecom, the single biggest issue that MfR has in regards to delays in servicing phones is non supply of parts by the likes of Sanyo and in fact in the case of Sanyo it was Telecom who owned and ordered the parts on behalf of MfR. In most cases it was the above two corporates hiding their problems behind a great kiwi company

Would have to disagre with you Sinjin- Telegistics have stated that if they do not have the parts they will replace the phone! Something that a big corp can fund, but MFR would never be able to.
PS I have never seen a 7400 come back with rubber peeling off we use 40 of them for loaners- these get a very hard life as you can imagine and I have never seen that fault

Time will tell I guess but I would not hold my breath. Untill recently I was VERY involved in the mobile repair industry in NZ and I know exactly what issues can cause problems with solving end user issues.

One example. MfR were recieving over 10,000 phones a month from both Voda and Telecom customers yet between the two networks there are over 2,000,000 drops calls reported by the networks each month, yet everybody blames the phones. Anyone with half a brain can see were a majority of the issues are originating from.

I have also read Telegistics release to the Telecom dealers and already it is obvious that they will struggle by some of the staements they have made. At the end of the day there is a very good reason why no manufacturers or Teleco's have been reparing mobile phones in NZ over the last six years. Everytime they have tried they have done siginificantly worse than an independant contractor and lost considerable money doing so.

Telegistics is owned by Telecom and we all konw that if it does not make money Telecom will pull the plug. In the current structure that exists in NZ the only way you could meet what Telegistics have promised is by running at lose.

Good luck to them I just hope that they do not screw the whole industry

I think that is the point- Telegistics are prepared to run at a loss to finally provide some level of service to the Telecom customers....well I hope so any way.

I agree with you when you say it is a hard road to make any money out of servicing mobile phones and can fully understand some of MFR's problems. Especially with parts. Who in their right minds would want to stock a good supply of parts for a phone that may only be around for 3-6 months- then it is obsolete and you are stuck with them.

And yes the recent problem with the 7400- calls straight to cell sec, everyone knew it was a network problem yet Telecom continued to insist all phones be sent to MRF for software upgrades etc- I was involved with some testing for Lucent iin my area and they had no doubts it wasnt purely related to the phone.

As you say watch this space and see what develops, it is early days for telegistics. We already have one beef with them- they charge $55 to dealer for a warranty repair they deem damaged- no exceptions- I cant see a customer payiong for this, especially for a phone that is BER- so the dealer will be stuck with this cost for a reapir that was sent away under warranty in good faith.

Don't know where you guys get your information from but there is no way Telecom drop anywhere even remotely close to 2,000,000 calls p/month... Can't comment on Vodafone though.
