I've just posted my work of the extracts ouf the RSM Database. To display the location of all the Cell Sites of all the mobile providers as per what is registered in the RSM Database as KML files that can be used with Google Earth, or Google Maps online.

This doesn't necesarily mean that the telco actually has a transmitter there, it just means they are allowed to transmit from there.

It's based on the new LAT/LONG Geocodes in the RSM Database, so the pin-points should be more accurate than they were before.

Just checked it out and it looks pretty good around hawkes bay.
A few are off but i suspect this is because of the RSM database.

Eg. At McLean park, napier - the light towers have cell stations ont them. TC's is pinned near the vodafone one and the vodafone is pinned closer to the telecom one so they are around the wrong way. - but its still within 100m so still pretty spot on.

Looking down towards dannivirke, norsewood and out in the country areas around the mahia peninsular, it is really interesting to see how remote some of these cell sites are - although some of these more remote ones were probably placed there because its better suited for the microwave backhaul than its local cell coverage.

So again this is very well done. :-)

RSM Database should be accurate, so that's a problem for someone :-)

I assume the datum used was correct, and it's not a case of the whole-lot-are-off-by-300m ? :) (they did look pretty rational to me when I looked around Auckland CBD...)

Prior to the Sept 20 RSM Database, they only included the NZGD1949, which was very off and I could never be bothered re-writing LINZ's NZGD1949 -> NZGD2000 in something other than C (Java would have been nice for my purpose). But now after I asked the RSM folks when they were planning to add the NZGD2000 Lat/Long into their database they did it for me as part of the release.

So.. As accurate as RSM store the location, is as accurate as it's shown.

RSM primarily store the locations in TOPO50 Format with two decimal points of accuracy.

So if you go to Smart, enter in locationid 122340 for Wellington Central Exchange. You will see that you get given the TOPO50 Location, all the other locations are derrived from that location.

Should be. I used the same data source (RSM database) and had to do some conversions from NZMG to WGS84 lat/long. Also my last update was in July, so BarTender's are more recent.

BTW BarTender how do you know which of Telecom's frequencies are CDMA and which are WCDMA in the 850 band?

The advantage of putting them on a google site is you can link to them externally and load them up in Google Maps, your kml's you needed to download and then load up into Google Earth.

And to answer the question of CDMA vs WCDMA 850, CDMA is 875 or or 875.01, and you notice they were registered back in 1995, the WCDMA XT Frequency 882.5Mhz was registered in 2008.
