So earlier someone had said you could set these up as access points. I have a Huawei Mesh system (in place of all voda equipment) and figured could use them with it. But when I get to the part with Access Point on the deco app I can tap on dhcp or access point and nothing happens. Changing is not an option. Any quick ideas or should I just send them back?

The Huawei and Deco mesh systems are different and not compatible with one another - only Easy Mesh compatible ones work across brands.  The Decos can work in router mode (they run the lan DHCP with parental controls etc) or in Access Point Mode where all they are is Wireless access points and your main router device issues the ips etc.

You can connect the Decos  to the Huawei but you'll have two seperate Wifi networks - not one.

In my opinion the Decos are better than the Huawei's anyway (Wifi performance just as good, but deco has better app and controls)

I got one of these packs to try it out since I have the iPad Air and iPhone 12 Pro Max. You get the TP Link Deco x20, While yes WIFI 6. my Orbi RBK50 still wifi 5 I am getting better speeds from the Orbi on both devices than the TP Link.

I am on Fibre max (950/450) I guesss if I was just on standard fibre it wouldn't make a difference. I also have a better range on the Orbi. shame I couldn't return the Deco. well I guess they can serve as a guest WIFI network ha

Makes sense given the price difference. The RBK50s are more akin to the TP Link X60 or X90.

You can return them. Hassle talking to call centre but I have a return pack for them. Have photo'd everything to make sure comes off account.

So I assume if someone is still under contract to Vodafone they’ll need to wait until the contract is up before they can renew and get these?

My in-laws are with Vodafone (not sure why, as they are one of the last ISPs I’d go with), and only this week I was going to start looking into means to improve their WiFi coverage. The installers put the ONT and router in one far end of the house that, while making the job easy for them, has sure destroyed the decent reception provided by the previously centrally located ADSL modem/router... This is probably the easiest and cheapest option for them to provide an acceptable solution.

You're aware that the router can be moved up to 100m from the ONT by the use of Ethernet cabling ?  If the house is not on a concrete pad it's very simple.  A hole drilled in the floor where the ONT is and a hole in the floor where you want the router - cable run from ONT to router.  Done.  Or it can be run thru the ceiling and etc as the boys and I used to do with the cabling for the Sky sat installs a few years ago.   That's a little more difficult but quite do-able generally.

Oh, and then theres 'Powerline adaptors, (with wifi built in), which I've seen run with some good success also.

Bit late to the party here but just resigned with Vodafone for another 12 months (they called and offered me a further $10 off a month to resign; now paying $53 a month for full speed HFC).

Have set them up, all hunky dory. Pain to have to setup all the IoT devices around the house again (same network name and password but all required wifi setup again).

Have had a read of this thread and haven't seen this answered, when plugged in straight to the cable box and using as a wireless router - it doesn't appear to get a IPv6 address from VF.

Do these support VF's implementation of IPv6 and if so anything I need to do to get it working? I'd rather not put these back behind the Ultra Hub but IPv6 is a deal breaker for me these days.

Cheers

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yep they support IPv6, I've set mine in access point mode so the Ultrahub can do the routing (I need the extra ports hence not using the tplink as AP and router).

Unless you know what you are doing I'd imagine most people with these are doing double-NAT.

I'm trying to avoid having the Ultra Hub in the mix.

After some playing it turns out you need to change IPv6 to Bridge mode under Advanced.

IPv6 working like a charm now.

Very happy with these Deco devices so far.

I had been using an enterprise AP for a few years (Cambium cnPilot e400) that covered the whole (small) house reasonably well, and seldom had any issues.
When I saw the SuperWiFi offer I thought that a mesh solution that retails at $440 had be better than a single AP. I installed them in AP mode, with a wired connection to each node. Sure enough, the mesh does provide better coverage, faster too, except after about a week I start getting odd things happening. One device (either someone's phone or my HP Elitebook) will refuse to connect to the network.
Things just go downhill from there until I reboot both devices. Got so bad recently that when I tried to reboot the Decos, the app simply said it couldn't - I had to power cycle them manually.

My past experience with consumer grade equipment has not been great. Is it 'normal' to have to reboot the Decos every week or so?

If a device is really old, or really old drivers, it wont see a wifi network that broadcasts Wifi6 - you need to upgrade the drivers or disable the AX wifi on the Deco. I've had this with an old Acer laptop. updated drivers then it was fine.

A reboot once a year at most would be expected. If it is a regular reboot, to sort connectivity, then thats usually a networking issue - eg two DHCP server devices on the network, or a bad device causing a network storm. The issue will reoccur after a period of time, so you end up rebooting regularly. Take a close look at whats connected and how they are configured.

The App talks to the Decos via cloud connection, not local lan. So if the Decos cant talk to the internet, then the app cant reboot them.

Kids have found that if you enable the private wifi option on the iphone that it circumnavigates the parental controls.

You can change the password, then create a .mobileconfig profile which disables the secure relay.

I have to hand Vodafone a bouquet.
Was rung out of the blue (Have been out of contract for 6 years) and offered the same service of unlimited broadband and landline phone for $15 a month cheaper. They replaced the Huawei router with the current model and supplied a pair of  TP-Link Deco. I wasn't planning to change providers, so being tied for a further 2 years to pay for the hardware is no hardship.
Like some of the posters, re-setting up the many wifi gadgets especially older security cameras was a bit of a pain, but we got there in the end. Also the broadband entry point was in a bedroom closest to the main road which meant wifi signals throughout the house were variable.
My main computer plugs directly into the second Deco unit and my internet speed has improved from 45mbps to 105mbps which is pretty impressive. I didn't put the Deco into AP mode.
The only downside of the deal was that Vodafone insisted on changing the account number, which meant a hassle setting up direct debit facilities and clashes between the old account and the new one. Why this was necessary, heaven knows!

All in all I am pretty impressed with Vodafone in reducing my outgoing cost unprompted. It happens very rarely. SkyTv should take note. After 17 years with them, all they've done is put the price up each year while offering new subscribers the same service at half the price. Grrrrrrrr!

cheers

TC
