andar: I just switched from the old 150GB plan to unlimited and received an email which then stated I would be on a 12 month contact with $199 ETC. I rang back to get this corrected and was told Vodafone do not offer anything less than a 12 month contract and this could not be changed. No amount of talking would change his mind.

At the start of the call I asked to be put through to the retention team but was told he could help, when he couldn't and he wouldn't budge I said I would cancel the order for the new plan. He then stated I would need to talk to the retention team to do this.....I had been on the phone for 13 minutes by this stage.....so quite frustrated at this point and I hung up.

What's the deal, can I get this plan without a signing up for a minimum term?

Drop me a PM with your customer information. I'll get that info for you.

D.W: I'm currently on an old TelstraClear plan, and Telecom prepaid mobile, looking at changing to new cable plan + pay monthly mobile.

I tried calling on 0508 888 800 but was put on hold for longer than I was able to wait, do they have a callback service I can request somewhere?

Not for the 0508 number no. But if you're lucky, NikT might pick up on your message and you can use the "Geekzone Callback Service" ;)

What am I, chopped liver? :P

@D.W. Pass me your customer info and what you need and we'll see what we can find out for you.

freitasm: Actually cable should be a bit better than VDSL - even better if you get the 130 Mbps speeds.

I just looked at Vodafone's site to check prices and it says my address can't have cable - the same address I have had cable since 2006 (and the previous owners before that)...

Except we had it before. It wasn't very stable, kept having to chase them up.

That aside, it has 2 Mbps upload, whereas VDSL is up to 10. Only the download is faster - to an unnecessary extent, whereas the upload would be beneficial.

Oddball: Just came here to laugh at this thread. Called Vodafone, can I get VDSL? No because you have access to cable. I don't want cable, can I get VDSL? No cable's better. No it's not. Yes it is. We had it, it was horrible, can we get VDSL? No.

Rubbish ISP.

Unless you specifically want the potentially higher upstream on VDSL vs. the 50/2 cable plan, cable is flat-out better. And there's the option of 130/10.

It is, IMHO, unrealistic to expect a network operator to sell you a wholesale service with all the associated costs when an equivalent in-house owned & operated service is available.

When did you last try cable? What problems did you have with it? A lot of work has been done recently.

the voda cable unlimited is tempting for only 79.

Does voda offer a trial period of your service say 1 month? (of course happy to pay 79) and see if my streaming is all good? ie. no buffering on netflix, hulu and international sites.

Instability, had it for over a year, frequent drop outs. This was 10 months ago. The option of 130/10 is significantly more expensive.

I'd take ADSL (and do) over cable.

Cause of the cost of the install to Vodafone I would say no

The service is generally rock solid, I hope techs were sent to check your signal strength/modem/CPE/node/et cetera as that has to be a location/install-specific issue.

Cable is now the cheapest it has ever been by a significant margin - the top tier unlimited plan @ 130/10 is $109/month when you have an on account mobile - so I hope positive reports of all the work that's been done will trickle your way in the near future.

I only wish Auckland had been cabled so I could take advantage of it myself. :)

We wont pay over $110, and we wont upgrade without the upload being higher than 2Mbps, and my flatmate is rather attached to the free national calls that Orcon provides sadly.

But in the future it might be a possibility providing that we see evidence of line quality before committing.

Rubbish ISP.

Several months ago, when VF data caps were small, I had VF cable 130/10 and Orcon VDSL2 (on a second phone line) at the same address in Wellington.
At the time it was cheaper for a heavy user to have two internet connections than to pay overage charges to VF.
VF cable was far superior to VDSL in all respects (except the data allowance).
I went "all cable" as soon as the VF data caps went up to 500GB.

lokhor: I currently have naked cable 500GB and I noticed that the unlimited plan is $10 cheaper. Can I switch or is there a penalty?

AFAIK from the previous posts, all 500Gb plans were switched to unlimited a few days ago so you are probably already switched

I checked and I have not been switched. Should I ring and ask? it is cheaper which is weird
