@mikehales

So if you currently use imap or web, you need to transfer existing emails (possibly decades worth) to your new email account or lose them forever.

If you currently use pop3, then not necessary as you already have a local copy.

I think my main confusion is around what will and wont work after enabling forwarding, and then after Nov 30.

After 30 November, yes that's correct.

Correct

Forwarding will change nothing in terms of access, everything changes after 30 November.

I was told over the phone that the link sent out in the email could be used again to change forwarding before the cutoff, and that it could also be changed in My Vodafone. Neither of those appear to be correct.

Forwarding was enabled on Tuesday, thus far nothing has been forwarded.

Ummm, if Forwarding is invoked, would that not pick up all the 'resident/saved' emails and send them all to the new address?  Maybe only those flagged as Unread will get Forwarded?

No it would not, would strongly recommend an import process into new email service. Forwarding only covers new emails received post forwarding set up.

Apologies, that is incorrect. Your link can only be used once. However, you can change the email address in My Vodafone, which is where we send your bill, anytime and is not connected to this process.

3 business days for setup. So should come online during the day today, sorry can't be more precise.

Can you tell me where in My Vodafone that option is? The Manage my email section doesn't have anything that can be changed.

@MikeHales It would be helpful if you could quote the person you're responding to so we can quickly see the specific question the response relates to rather than having to search for and deduce it.

More importantly, I used the link in the Vodafone email 5 days ago (Sunday) to forward an IHUG mailbox to a new address for a mate and as yet nothing has been forwarded. I'm not exactly filled with confidence that all emails will be received once mailbox access is cut off.

I can assure you that you definitely won't be receiving all the e-mail that you would otherwise receive, depending on your new provider. If I e-mail a @ihug/vodafone/clear... address and it is forwarded to a @gmail (or other Google hosted address), you will never receive it as Google (correctly) thinks the e-mail is forged as Vodafone's servers are not in my (strict) SPF record.

Spark as also known to drop e-mails that fail strict SPF e-mails too. https://list.waikato.ac.nz/pipermail/nznog/2017-April/022514.html

quick question re forwarding (I have to do this next week for an elderly gent)

does the forwarding have to be setup from the link in the email sent out to everyone
if so, what if that particular email is missing or deleted ?

or , can we just go into clearnet webmail & manually setup email forwarding ?

@stinger. This this issue was addressed on page 9. SPF records apply to the envelope, not the e-mail headers. If remailing is used, it's Vodafone's SPF record that will be checked, not that of your domain.

How about extending the cutoff date from November 30 to April next year? Its just not enough time for the process to run smoothly.

@Apsattv Apologies, 30 November is the date. Forwarding does mean your email won't stop.
