Can someone confirm how this service actually works?

So you get UFB (fiber,) which presumably comes with the default ONT configured accordingly with an additional CVID for the IPTV?

Then does Vodafone supply a router as well as a set-top box? Is SKY/Freview then just viewed over said set-top box or do you still in addition to that have to pay for a SKY subscription?

One thing which Orcon did really well with 'Genius' was make it simple to use, if things aren't just plug and play uptake will never be good.

my guess is the LFC installer will put it all in for you, like sky do. they dont mail you out a decoder and a satellite dish, they put it in for you.

hamish225: does the set top box plug into a different port on the ONT or do you just connect it up to your router with all your other computers and such?

From what i recall. We have 72Mbp/s bandwidth for the IPTV and it plugs into a separate LAN connection on the ONT itself. (Ill double check)

From the general instruction manuals that we have been given from Chorus for the installation of these services via UFB it goes

ONT into RGW (Residentual GateWay = Router) into STB/s (Set Top Box) to TV

and its supposed to be generaly all PNP

I'd be somewhat surprised if the lfc tech did the box install as they won't be trained for it (imagine if every ISP had their own thing and the techs had to learn about 10 different stbs, what a nightmare)
Most likely the box will either be plug and pray, sorry, I mean plug and play, :p. or vf will have their own tech lined up who will come out separately.

I'd be interested to know if the box has wifi built in as you may want your ont installed somewhere that isn't by your tv. Similarly for vdsl the jack point may not be by the tv. I know mine isn't.

The set top box must be plugged direct into the Vodafone supplied Huawei 659 router.

Okay so I can see why this is a new option for people living outside of Wellington and Christchurch who have no access to the TCL cable network.  But it doesn't look much different to the current packages you may well be on from TCL.   I have the package deal that includes homeline, c.60GB of broadband plus a T-box with Sky.   Am I missing something here (other than the broadband being faster) in this announcement?   The prices look like they are going up too.

Bit confused that they list Chch when Chch is Enable which they dont list. Hoping it will be Enable also as would happily move/stay with TCL if can go Cable to UFB when my new house is finally built AND the data allowances move up.

TBH, nobody seems to understand this offering at all including the various VF spokespeople!

I am, as an ex TCL customer, left wondering whether this is the beginning of the end or the start of something but I have to say I have absolutely no idea!

The 'merger' has just served to confuse and alienate people and we are left with various websites, numbers to call depending on whether you're existing VF or TCL, InHome or 'Normal', UFB or Red or White or Green........................................confused? You will be

judging by this, looks like you will in fact lose iSky when you switch to Vodafone's sky product.

Actually it looks like you loose ALL channels when you switch to Sky with Vodafone:

I would like to sign up but tbh I have a bad feeling I will have difficulty trying to talk to the CSR on the phone.

LOL. Oh that was nicely done.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

iSky works fine for live streaming and catch-up with cable connections, which is what that page is about now.
