Ragnor: I'm coming around to the idea cell sites should be centrally planned and operators should share locations and possibly equipment. I think cell sites are one area where overbuild is not really desired.

The problem is the resource content process pretty much prevents this from happening. With height and size restrictions that apply with many sites there is simply no room to mount gear for multiple providers.

See my previous post.. while some (like geeks for example) want it.. there is still groups of people who do not. When you're selling your property you want to attract as much of the market as possible. Having a cellphone tower coming will put off some people.

Once it is there it will be a non issue, so yeah with the uncertainty about it going in it might affect selling right now, but that's the downside with property ownership is things changing affecting its value.

While its unfortunate that while this unknown is hanging around your value is reduced, the longer its stuck in resource consent limbo then the longer till you will get past it and sell for a better price.

Well, since only one network does fax on GSM its even more important to check for coverage before buying ;)

Well, since only one network does fax on GSM its even more important to check for coverage before buying ;)

It's a magic fax.. doesn't require ink or thermal paper either.

Not sure how faxes came into it.. but nevermind.

PaulBrislen: I can understand people not wanting an ugly great monstrosity outside their house... we try to make towers look as non-GAH as possible. (My favourite cellsite doubles as a rubbish bin on the waterfront).

Can I just put the case for not having cellphone coverage being as much of a trouble for house buyers as having a tower... I bought a house without considering coverage or even landline broadband coverage and was blessed with being 700m from the exchange (ADSL2+ rocks) and cursed with no mobile cover.

The reason for poor coverage - Vodafone (and Telecom and everyone else) weren't allowed to build a tower on the nearby hill. Instead, they try to surround the hill with sites and unfortunately my street is in the "shadow".

I now have a mini repeater in my kitchen which gives me great coverage but my neighbours still have nothing. They're finding it adds an extra dimension to their house sale process as well.

Just a thought.

I get stuff all CDMA signal here and worse XT, and no XT on a 850 only device like a R100. Would love them to put a site in the park down the road etc but unfortunatly they dont seem to give a crap that somewhere like this has lousy signal. Great everywhere else tho.

Just because he works for Vodafone, doesn't mean that he will always get great reception.. lol
