MaxineN:

I imagine that some parts of enable are already there and enable are ready to go, they're just waiting for the opportunity, aka potential HFC decomm.

Yes quite possibly....

I found an old Scoop article from 2007 that quoted a TelstraClear spokesman - "Additional micro-ducting (which allows for fibre-to-the-home) has also been provided [to each Pegasus land parcel] to enable future proofing capability without the risk of needing to dig up the neighbourhood at a later date.”

Assuming access to that micro-duct is obtainable for an LFC, it could make UFB installation a heck of a lot less disruptive!

On the ONE NZ website HFC plans are absent from the available plans list.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Same here - my address was showing an HFC option earlier in the week, but it's gone today.

On a different note - if they abandon the old cables in the ground, I wonder if that makes them fair game for scrapping? Not that they would have a high value, with a lot of insulation and steel, and not a lot of copper.

Just tried my old address again (where I had cable installed in 2001) and got the same thing, options are fibre or wireless, that's it.

Although I did notice this still visible on the plans page:

I am certain Poseidon will assist Pegasus to wing it.

broadbandmap.nz shows cable only (orange) in Pegasus, with a tiny square of fibre (pink) in the middle. I guess it's not entirely up-to-date as earlier comments on here indicate parts of the suburb do have fibre available, not just a tiny square of it. Wireless is also available too (as is satellite).

I punched a random address from that square into Spark’s address finder and it said fibre was available. Makes sense if it’s a school, just why did they stop after that block for surrounding properties?

Database server runs on HFC. Checks out.

Yes, HFC was an option yesterday on One for my address, gone today.

So looks like I will be moving from HFC to fibre. I have two choices for One fibre plans: Everyday Fibre at 500 mbps or Fibre Max at 906 mbps.

Will Everyday Fibre be a downgrade in speed to what I amused to with HFC or am I unlikely to notice any difference? (not a gamer, just stream at 4k).
